Hi,

I mistyped my email id while linking my application to the account. I realized it when I did not receive any email when i linked my application.

All my forms are having correct email id though. Unluckily,I might have had a typo error during linking and it missed my attention somehow.

I have rectified it now but the mail that my application has been linked must have sent to the incorrect email id. It might also contain the application number.

Can anyone misuse the Application number if he does not have my other details or is it just used to view the application status ?
Are there any steps to avoid its misuse ?
Is there something i could do to keep my application safe ?

I am really worried about this.

Is there any chance that you can set up an email account for your mis-spelt email address as well?

Since you mis-typed an email ID and somehow already corrected, I believed that any messages sent to the incorrect one will bounce-back to CIC since it's not a valid email addy in the first place.

Just my thought :-) I still think you're Ok now.

Ohhh...
Do you mean to say that my email id entered in the forms for CIC wont match with the email id I had entered while linking the application. So it will not be sent to the wrong email id ?

In any case, it will bounce-back. But since you already got it corrected, you're Ok :-)

Could always email the wrong address and apologise for any emails sent to the owner in error. Not everyone in the world has dishonest intentions and anyway as long as an individual cannot access your immigration account.

@Survivor27,
The mis-typed email id is a valid one and some body must be using it.
I sent an email to the mis-typed email id but the mail did not bounce back.
The mail bounced back when I entered an invalid email id and sent an email to it.
My question is, will the email bounce back even if the mis-typed email id is in use by some other person ?
Even though I have changed it now, I was just concerned if application number can be misused.

@Bs65, I did apologise :) I understand that not all are dishonest. But the stress level is high and its just a concern so that I could take any steps to prevent the misuse if possible :)

Oops, since you mentioned you also tried to create an email using the incorrect one you entered on MyCIC and that address is already taken, it means it is a good email address. But again, since you already updated that email address, then you are fine. Future messages from CIC will still go to your "own" and correct email address.

Btw, when I linked my account to MyCIC, I never got an email message about the successful linking of my account like others does. But on MyCIC, I got a message on that same time I got my account linked.

Your App Number will be of no use if indeed, CIC's auto-generated email system sent a message to the "incorrect address". It's a good thing you sent a message to whoever the owner of that "incorrect" address.

This was done so early so you didn't miss anything important if anything at all. Many people don't even get that account linked email anyway. You have now corrected the email address so any correspondence will be sent to the correct one that is now associated with your account. There isn't really anything anyone can do just having your file number without your details and I would like to think the majority of souls out there wouldn't be trying and wouldn't even know what to do with it, so I wouldn't stress too much about that. For peace of mind maybe give CIC a call, explain what happened and hopefully they will also reassure you.
