Thank all of you guys for replying!!!! This is seriously helping set my mind at ease! So basically as an American I should bring my birth certificate & passport down to where they serve marriage licenses and certificates and then do what we need to do and make sure both sides are aware and then apply for an outland permanent residency? Sounds good to me.

RE: Sea Shepherd. I made a phone call to my local consulate. When I've gone through customs before I've been questioned as far as my affiliation (due to various logos on clothing and bags at various times) and I've already gone through the song and dance of "there's no seals in Alberta. I have no intention of going onto the ice floes etc etc." Most customs agents chuckle and state that they agree with our cause or say something about Japan's whaling operation and then let me on there. Occasionally there's a jerk that searches my bags looking for god only knows what.

anyway. I was told that being a member of SSCS shouldn't be an issue at all since they're an eco-conservation group that's never been convicted of any act of terrorism even though Japan and people involved in the seal hunt have called us such and there hare a great number of members in Canada especially in BC.

I'm so excited. We really do want to be married. it's been a long time and to me it's worth it. We can't incur the expense of a 50,000 - 100,000 wedding right now. But we intend to do something absolutely lovely in due time. Right now we're saving up to buy an acreage. I train horses for a living so I need some space of my own ;)

Glad we could help.

Mmm, whale bacon. Don't care as much for the soft/fatty sushi type.

That's really good to hear. :) My caution is just to prevent potential grief down the line. Heading to Alberta as a visitor is a lot different from applying to become a PR where the security checks are much more extensive. You've been questioned about this by CBSA already which means your association with SSCS is noted in their system. Make sure you also disclose your membership when you apply for PR.

Yep, plenty of members in BC. We love our green living, granola eating, tree hugging, Birkenstock wearing folks in this neck of the woods!

Oh I hear you. I wouldn't even dream about lying about my status with SSCS. I'm a bit of a rogue in that I'm not Vegan, not even close to Vegetarian. I am 100% against abuse of resources and animals though. Color me a cool tree hugger LOL!

I can't wait to get this show on the road. Seriously. So excited. I absolutely adore Canada and being so close to BC and Seattle is making me very very happy. I'm going to be going back to school to pursue a PhD in Marine Biology so this is all incredibly lovely. It's a huge bonus to be able to live in such a clean environment. We'll be about an hour and 45 mins NW of Edmonton.

I'm in Florida... No snow here. It's way up nearly 92F and 100% humidity. Snow has it's charms still ;)
I guess so, my Portuguese husband loves it, but after many years of snow, it gets a bit tiresome!! Although the skiing is great!!

It snowed here in the Vancouver area yesterday, is it not the middle of April? Just seems wrong. Sometimes I wonder why I didn't decide to immigrate to sunny and warm California instead of my husband immigrating here.

I know exactly how you feel!!! I have those thoughts every day. I even wonder why my maternal grandparents decided to immigrate to Canada instead of Australia (they were from Scotland). I could have handled being Australian lolll.
