the way I understand it is: as soon as you reach the 3 years mark, you can send your application with all the proofs - print of the residency calculator etc.

That's kind of how it works. The 3-of-4 years thing is to get a rolling number, and to ensure people don't rack up their 3 years over a decade or something. So if you leave the country in the middle for an extended period, some of your time in Canada might start to get erased and no longer eligible for citizenship.

Also remember any time you spend physically in Canada BEFORE landing as a PR, will count as 1/2 time towards citizenship (of course still subject to the 3/4 years rule).

Remember to start recording details of all your vacations and trips in and out of Canada starting NOW, since when you accumulate the 3-years requirement you'll have a heck of a time trying to remember the exact dates you came in and out of the country over the last 3-4 years :)

Indeed - that's part of my "follow up sheet" as well - dates, and proofs of it ( stamps on passport, plane tickets etc!) - this time CIC will have my application without having to dig out too many things! :-)

Ha, very sound advice. I'll definitely have this one covered. :)

I have another question. While the Citizenship is in process do you need to remain inside of Canada (ie. can you do trips etc without it affecting the already atttained 3/4 years?) Prob could go to the other forum or research myself, but I find it easier to find answers here!

Cheers in advance ;)
