But no one answered

I am sponsoring my husband from Dom Republic. It will be almost 7 months in a few weeks.

why is the eligibility requirements for canada takes so long? Our file still say they are processing for eligibility. Seems stuck there!

Some people get it right away some people don't. It is a waiting game. It's 2 months now and I am still waiting on sponsor approval. They told me it can come anytime during the process. No specific timeframe.

Aor's and SA's are different.
But eligibility part is my question
What is being verified and why can it sometimes take so long, anyone knows?

Mangu Power, truth is we don't even know if they actually started to verify the eligibility. Ideally this would mean they are looking at the evidence you provided, but realistically speaking, looking at other people's application (a good example is an October applicant who contacted his MP and they said his app has not even been opened) Only the notes will give you an answer, maybe not a complete answer but at least a partial one.

Our apps might be in queue to be reviewed or for an interview. They might have requested some documents from you and put you in a 1 month or 3 months waiting queue even tho you submitted w.e they requested next day. No one really knows. Some people from June, July have not gotten their ppr while others from Dec got it.

That's why the only thing can answer that questions is having those notes. There we will see if they have opened our file, and if they have what it has been done, if we are in a waiting queue for an interview or if we are just waiting for our background checks to be started.

So basically, that could mean anything. The only thing is for sure is that when the background check changes to in process, ppr should come 1-2 months after at least for MVO. Others VO's can take up to 6 months or even 1 year doing background checks (Arab countries and such).

The more time that goes by and the more posts I read from other people, the more I get confused sometimes. My conclusion at this point from my own experience and from what I have read up to this date is that the GCMS notes are the best source of information.

Our GCKey account indicated that our background check and eligibility check went into progress when we received SA around March 6. Someone else told me that they started processing background checks in Mississauga to help with the backlog in the VO's. If the PPR comes 1-2 months after you see the "in progress", that would mean that we should be getting our PPR, which has not occurred and I doubt will happen anytime soon because they have not even requested us to send in the RCMP police check. . Last change in our status was on May 4, when eCAS added the line "We started processing your application May 4". This was more than 7 weeks after the background check in progress showed up on the GCKey account.

I have no clue how much of the background check was done in those 7+ weeks if any. And does that mean that our eligibility check was being done also outside of the VO too? Technically speaking, none of those things could have been done if they didn't even open our file.
After all these questions, I can only conclude that ordering GCMS notes pertaining to one's specific case would be the best option to find out what is going on with your case. It seems that when I think I have figured out what the procedure is, I see something different happening with someone else and whatever I thought was the case doesn't hold true anymore. So frustrating!

For pre March applicants, when the background check goes in progress it means PPR is coming since the eligibility is done. They changed the procedure in march and like you said Mississauga is doing a part of the background check. Haven't seen a march applicant getting PPR yet so no one knows what the new procedures are but I'm sure it will be beneficial for your application having the background check started before it reached MVO. I wouldn't be surprised if you got PPR before us haha.

I sure hope you are right about it taking less time to get PPR. However, it doesn't seem quite fair. But then again, this whole process isn't fair to anyone who is waiting to be with their spouse because it just takes too damn long with too much red tape.

It will be faster for you than for all of us. Mexico usually takes 1-3 months doing background checks , what if your background check is pretty much done by Mississauga? that will mean that if you have a solid case, they will just ask for PPR once they review your file. I have heard of people even after passing eligibility waiting for their background check to be started. That could be a week gap or 1 month gap who knows, depends on the backlog but for sure yours and anyone who applied after end of January will have a faster processing time.

Mexico VO? either way why is it taking so long for you. I know it's unfair. Your background check must be done, I wonder what are they waiting for, have you requested for your notes? or a MP inquiry?

No, our application is in Bucharest VO. Im appplying from Iraq. Processing time is 20 months but i know many people who got their visas within a year. My friend also sponsored her hsuabnd from same country and he came within 5 months!!! I have a lawyer, requested notes and it seems everything is ok just waiting on background check but it can take up to a whole year. Also they started working on my file a year and a half after i submit it because it was first in Jordan and rhen they transferred it to Bucbarest. (High volume of apps in Jordan) So they never really worked on it in Jordan. And it has already been 26 months for application and 7 months for background chrck !! So unfair . They should finish with old applications then work on the new ones. Its all luck honestly.
