Hello all,

I got my Canada pr a year back and travelled to Netherlands due to my work. I couldn't stay in Canada for more than two months. I have my pr card with me.

I got married and am planning to move to Canada in next couple of months.

Will I be able able to apply for sponsorship as soon as I reach Canada ? Or is there any minimum duration I should've stayed in Canada before applying for my spouse's dependent visa ?

You can apply as long as resident in Canada, and compliant with residency obligation (which you are if info above correct).

Is your spouse from a visa-exempt country? Were you living together before you got married? If so when?
We are from India. And we weren't living together.

If I travel to Canada and find a job, will I be able to apply for sponsorship immediately?

I read somewhere that we should've stayed in Canada for minimum of 12 months to become a sponsor. Is it true ?

You can sponsor your spouse immediately after returning to Canada. No, there is no requirement to live together for 12 months if you are married.

Thank you very much.. based on the current trend, it looks like, the dependent visa processing will take atleast a year.

It's not a dependent visa. It's spousal sponsorship. Yes, it will take around a year.

You will need to remain in Canada primarily while the application is in process.
Okay.. is it required to show proof of income or funds to become a sponsor? Because I would've been travelled to Canada just a month before applying for sponsorship. So I wouldn't be having employment or income history in Canada. Will it be an issue ?

Download the application package and read the eligibility and instructions.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/family-sponsorship/spouse-partner-children/eligibility.html

There is no formal financial criteria or minimum: "Note: In most cases, there is no low-income-cut-off (LICO) for spouse, partner or dependent child sponsorships."

Showing some savings or eg. realistic plans to be employed should be sufficient.

One key point: if you take social assistance from government (usually at provincial level), it can and will be denied (some specifics depending on type of social assistance).

You only have to show that you can support yourselves without government help. When you get a job you should update your application via webform.
