Eligibility of common law partner with no CA work experience

Hi everyone,

My boyfriend and I are currently in Canada on two-year IEC work permits. We're thinking about applying for Permanent Residency this summer, but I'm a bit confused about the eligibility requirements.

I was planning to apply as the principal applicant, as I have skilled work experience (NOC A) but my boyfriend hasn't been working since we moved here, so he won't have any Canadian work experience. Will we both still be able to apply for Express Entry with me as the principal? Or will he be ineligible? If he is ineligible, can he remain in Canada with me, but not be able to work?

Thank you!

You can add him to your application if you are "common-law" partners and you can prove it.
Yes - we are common-law and both names are on our lease so that should be fine. Just wasn't sure if he would be eligible without work experience here! Thanks :)

Hope his status will still be valid during the application process since he is already in Canada?
