Electrician Courses in Toronto

I would like to come to Canada to do a course as an Electrician. I have worked as an electrician in the past, but i do not have any formal training as an electrician. Could you suggest a few colleges where I can get formal training as well as apprenticeship as an electrician and the fees for the courses.

A little background about my education. I have done a 3 year Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course (Its a Govt of India Recognized Certificate Course) after completing my 12std. I have 4 years experience working as a painter, electrician and construction supervisor. I have 6 months work experience working with an Indian Airline as an apprentice. I have experience assembling computers and started up my own computer maintenance firm which I currently do part time due to time restraints. I am currently employed in a IT company which deals with domain parking for the past one year. The reason I shifted to IT was due to no jobs in the Aviation sector in India. My parents had applied for PR way back in 2003 and we were all supposed to come to Canada at that time, but they backed out before the final formalities were done as they were worried about job prospects after coming to Canada as our immediate relatives were still struggling to find jobs at that time after migrating almost 2 years before us and I was still schooling at that time. This time, I want to try to go on my own. I don't know which would b the right course to select as i have experience in different areas. I am not sure about the Aviation sector in canada and the last that i heard, it seems very difficult to get a job in Aviation. My main focus is to do a course that is in demand in Canada,duration of the course is not a problem. I am aged 27 and am worried about my Visa getting rejected if I apply for a diploma course as i have a huge education gap due to my work experience in between. The education consultants over here say that bcos I don't have continous education, I won't b able to get admission in a college and if I do it will be rejected as I will be sitting with guys who have just past out of 12th (18 yr olds), even though my Canadian relatives totally disagree with this fact and say they have alot of middle aged people sitting for classes in college, but how do the canadian govt. look at my situation. I don't know if having experience in different fields is a plus point of a negative.. Could you suggest a few courses that you feel I should do which are in demand in Canada..I would like to do a trade course in Canada or a diploma course or apply for immigration as a skilled worker using my past experience. What would you suggest is the best thing to do in ur honest opinion?

No age is not a problem don't worry.
you can apply for electrical engineering technician - power (diploma) in mohawk college it is two year co-op course in sept 2013 intake.
you can also go for electrical engineering technician - control (advance diploma) it is three year co op course in sept 2013 intake.

Thank you for your reply, I was thinking about an Electrician course or a hvac course as the demand for electricians and hvac technicians are very high, not sure if its true. Any colleges that you would suggest for the same? and which trade course would you select? Is there chances of your study permit being rejected if you apply for studies as an electrician after completing an aircraft maintenace course? I have experience working as electrician in the past and as an Aircraft Mechanic I was incharge of electrical and electronics work only. Would be grateful for your kind advice..

ya it affects but you can make strong SOP that why you choose this course and convience them about your course.

Could you suggest a good college for an Electrician course? Do you'll have any friends that are currently Electricians, How has their Journey been? Any words of advice?

I work as a master electrician in Toronto over 8 years. I did not pay a penny to those colleges and universities to become an electrician. What they teach over there is not gonna help you pass the exam and once you have the knowledge to pass the exam it is not gonna help you at work. If you were born overseas then you are lucky. Once I was in your shoes too the only difference is that I got lucky. I found a guy from a referral who has the actual answers to the exam and if you are born overseas he will help you register to become an electrician in Ontario. I fortunately still have his email torontotutor2000@gmail.com he will get you ready in 4 weeks to get your license and start working. As far as profession this is the best profession that I know of. Once you work three years you become a master electrician by then you will have enough contacts to start working for yourself, making anywere from 10,000-20,000 a month, or get in the union by offering them to recruit in exchange for membership and make 30 dollars per hour or once you get your license you move to Western Canada but get your license here in Ontario.

please dont recruit candidates for ur course.....OP in an indian i am guessing and ur course/license is not going to help him as he can not enter canada without a visa or a study permit which ur tutor cannot give him. so go advertise on the PR section of this forum lol
