Dear friends
My 1st post on this thread. After observing that few friends could not comprehend the residency requirement, I will try to clarify this residency calculation ....
may be in a better and
very simple way .... :
....... Just a simplified version of what
dpenabill is trying to explain AND what I understood about residency requirement -
(1) Don't worry ....... you can land anytime of the year as a PR holder.
Not even 1 day will be wasted (as someone was mentioning) .....
(2) If an individual didn't leave Canada (after landing/getting PR) even for a day, he/she will be eligible to apply exactly after 1460 days (means 4 years) ....irrespective of 183 days clause!
(3) For PR holders who were out of Canada, need to take care of this
183 days clause while applying for citizenship -
(i) If you have less than 183 days in the year of landing, that year will not be counted ....... (
I said year, but days will)
(ii) Next 4/5/6 (as per your absence from Canada) years will be counted. You can go out of Canada, as per your requirement
BUT
* make sure that you have minimum 183 days in each of these 4 years
PLUS
* you complete a total of 1460 days (
from the day of landing), a day
before you apply for citizenship.
(4) Apart from above 3 points, remember to file your tax returns (
whether you are required to pay tax or not)
EVERY year. The term -
"meet their personal income tax obligations" is not very clear,
BUT that is one eligibility criteria!!
The calculations will come true, for any day you land. It is not confusing ..... just different interpretations.
I hope now it is clear to few of my friends ....
Cheers, Anil
