To add to ngelsa's helpful post: that's 550 CAD fee for assessment of your application (non-refundable) plus 490 CAD for the right of permanent residence (refundable, may pay this fee after a positive decision has been made). For more info, check out these links:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/fees/fees.asp
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-how.asp (bullet point 3: "Pay your fees")

For the wife, too. "The right of permanent residence fee is $490.00 per person. There is no fee for dependent children."

Principal applicants and spouses and common-law partners coming with them to Canada must pay this fee. Applicants must pay this fee before CIC issues the permanent resident visa or before the applicant becomes a permanent resident in Canada.

These people do not have to pay this fee:

dependent children of a principal applicant or sponsor, a child to be adopted, or an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild; and
protected persons, including Convention refugees.
