Family Member Proof of Status (required)
You must provide a copy of your family member’s Canadian Citizenship or Canadian immigration status document (e.g. Canadian passport, Permanent Resident Card, Study Permit, or Work Permit). Please provide a copy of both sides of the document.

Questions:

  • Do I need to mention anything for family members who don't have Canadian immigration status (and not coming with me, they just live abroad, eg. parents)
  • Do I need to include extended families? ie. My spouse has a sibling who is Canadian, do I need to include that document in my section? Because my spouse has a separate section for this same document

Thanks!

This section appears only when you have claimed to have a relative who lives in Canada. That relative gets you points under FSW, though not EE points. If you don't need those points and don't want to claim the relative, just go back in your application and answer 'no' to the question of whether you have a relative in Canada. BE SURE you don't need the FSW points! If you do want to claim the points, you need birth certificates going back to the common relatives (siblings provide their own birth certificates with the same parents' names on both) as well as proof that the sibling has status in Canada.

There is a different section on the application (Family History or something like that) where you must list all your close relatives - parents, spouse, siblings, and children. In that section of my application it never asked about their status in Canada. It asked names, ages, relationship to me, and country of residence. Does it ask about Canada on yours?

Sorry, just to be sure ... "family member" is only direct relatives: spouse, mother, father, sister, brother, and I think include step-parents and step-siblings as well?

It does NOT include in laws?

Again, if you are talking about getting points for relatives living in Canada, I believe they include grandparents, parents, aunts/uncles by blood but not marriage, siblings, children, and grandchildren. I forget about whether cousins and nieces and nephews count. Oops. ANYWAY, you get credit for these relatives of yours or your spouse's, it's all the same on the application.

In the Family section, which has nothing to do with anyone living in Canada, it's just your family on your application, and your spouse's on theirs.

Hi Guys,

I have a sister who currently resides in canada. One of the documents(aside PR card and birth certificate) to be submitted when ITA is received is a document from my sister to prove that she resides in Canada. Here's an excerpt from the cic site:

- Evidence that the family member currently resides in Canada must be provided (a residential lease, mortgage documents, utility bills, etc.).
The documents should be up to date as of six months prior to submission.

Now, I asked my sister for utility bill and she says she doesn't have one. She says she has a phone bill though.

My question is, is the phone bill a sufficient document to show as proof of residence in Canada? Will CIC accept it?

proof of relative in canada for fsw points is shown at which point? means after receiving ita or before that? so that i can tell my relative to send the documents asap.

Hello,

I have already uploaded my birth certificate and my brother's + His pay stubs + Citizenship + Driving License.

But I believe I have already done that in other sections like the below - is this Okay ?

Proof of PR/Citizenship of sibling (required)
Proof of residency in Canada of sibling (required)
Proof of sibling relationship (required)
Family Member Proof of Status (required) (Does this include only my brother who is living in Canada ?)

Hello,

I have a sibling(brother) in Canada who currently lives there.

The questions asked during profile in personal history were;
1. If I have a sibling- I said yes
2. Who was it - I said Brother/sister
3. Where does he reside: Ontario

Then there was a question;
TELL US ABOUT THE IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS WHO HAVE NOT BEEN IDENTIFIED IN THE APPLICATION.

MY DOUBT IS;
WHOM SHOULD I INCLUDE IN THIS SECTION?

SHOULD I INCLUDE DETAILS OF MY BROTHER AGAIN?

AND WHAT ABOUT PARENTS ( THEY ARE NOT IMMIGRATING WITH ME TO CANADA NOR DO THEY HAVE CANADIAN PASSPORT OR PR CARD, THEY LIVE ABROAD)

You should include details of ALL your immediate family members (parents, siblings, children, spouse) whether or not they are already living on Canada, accompanying you, or planning to immigrate. This includes your brother.

I'm pretty sure this information is just to facilitate the background check and to get a proper understanding of your family situation. You're not going to be required to provide documentation for any of them who are not accompanying you, other than the Sibling who is a citizen/PR and currently residing in Canada (since you would have claimed points for this under both your FSW eligibility score, and your CRS Score).

Thank you for your reply.

But when I open the document checklist, under FAMILY MEMBER PROOF OF STATUS IT SAYS
" PROVIDE FAMILY MEMBERS PROOF OF STATUS EG. CANADIAN CITIZENSHIP, PASSPORT, PR CARD ,STUDY PERMIT OR WORK PERMIT."

MY PARENTS HAVE NONE OF THESE

WHAT SHOULD BE DONE IN THIS CASE?

This is just to provide evidence for the points you claimed for having a family member in Canada. You only need to provide documents for your brother. It's not in reference to your other family members who are not accompanying you and don't live in Canada.

Hi
My brother is in Canada and has just got through the express entry. He has not received the PR card although he has the PR stamping on his passport. I have claimed points using this for my express entry profile and I have got the ITA now. Is it mandatory to submit his PR card? I only have his passport with the PR stamping and the confirmation of PR document.

I have the same situation, what did you end up doing? Have you uploaded additional documents or submitted as is?

Hi...

I had a similar situation..After my brother did landing, I updated EE profile to get 15 additional points. After I got ITA, I have uploaded signed COPR. You can also use signed COPR as proof. I don't have any update for application as I have submiited last week..

Will keep you posted..
