Hello All,

I am new to this forum and I am planning to apply under EE - CEC category.
I have a question about how the points are calculated under CEC. This must have been answered before, but please give your inputs.

My Situation:

I have 11 months work experience in 2014 in NOC B. I worked from 02/Jan/2014 to 24/Nov/2014.
Due to some unfortunate issue, my employment was terminated and my last day at work was 24/Nov/2014.
I was pregnant at that time and tried to apply for other jobs but in vain.

Now I have a job offer and Will be starting on 23/Nov/2015.

My Question:

To score points under CEC, do we have to work for 12 months continuously or there can be any break in your work experience?
Will the CRS system add 30 Points for 1 Year experience in total?

Thanks in advance for your inputs.

- ms

Hi, think this may help you. From my reading, work experience need not be continuous.

Let me know how it goes.

Just to clarify I am talking about CRS points only. From the reading of the CEC requirements I can't tell if the work experience has to be continuous or not.

Thanks JoacRy for the quick reply.

You are a Star. You made my day.
A friend of mine who had EE profile was arguing about continuous Work Experience, and that he didn't get points as he had gap in his Canadian Experience while switching jobs.
But this info really helps.

Thanks a lot :)

" As of May 30, 2015, all valid Canadian work experience will be recognized under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of Express Entry as CIC is removing the requirement that Canadian work experience be continuous. As a result, foreign nationals with Canadian work experience could see an increase in their CRS points."

No problem. Hope it helps. Bear in mind, your friend may be right (if he was talking about continuous work experience in relation to CEC).

Hi joelmath, do you know if continuous work experience is required in relation to CEC? Does anyone else know?

Hi JoacRy & msaik, I am sure I have read about an update wherein they removed the clause about Canadian work experience to be continuous. Just not able to find that update in news articles. @msaik, please research on this you will be able to find the page without much deep dive. Please do not create a profile till you find the page.

Hi joelmath and msaik. I found the page (hope it helps). It's good news for me as well. The way this reads CEC does not need continuous work experience.

msaik, Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Congratulations, one thing I would say to you is to ensure that your CRS score is correct. My initial score was 486. I had to adjust it after I found out from the helpful members of this forum that my 2 Chartered Accounting designations are not 'certificates or diplomas'. Hence my score went down to 466.

Ensure that every part of your CRS profile is correct because the worst thing would be to either receive an ITA based on the score and have to reject it, or receive an ITA, submit all your documents and have it not processed due to misrepresentation and receive the 5 year ban penalty.

Now for the good news (of sorts). At the risk of speculating if your score is 100% correct then you should receive an ITA next draw (assuming the scores/intake numbers 1,500+/-). I'm sure that other people in this forum would tell you the same thing.

Hey JoacRy,

Thank you for the heads up. I will double check my education credentials and the rest of my profile.
I did my masters in computers in the states and have my WES verification approvals. So I think, i am safe there. But i will definitely cross check before the next draw.

I have a question about my spouse, who did a PG diploma in project management from humber college in toronto. It is a 2 semester certificate course, which started in may and ended in dec. Will that count as a 1year certificate program?
Would really appreciate your input on this.

Hi msaik, unfortunately the course your spouse did will not count as a '1 year' certificate given the duration is less than 12 months. I have attached the CIC conversion table for your reference. I can say this with 100% certainty because I also contacted CIC about a 'certificate' course that I studies over the course of 6 months in 'International Financial Reporting' and they informed me that the course has to be at least '12 months' in duration.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/eca-conversion.asp

I know this doesn't help, but if it's any consolation, neither my 2 CA designations (which I spent 2 years in Australia) and (1 year in Canada) studying and passing the exams for, or my 6 month certificate course count for anything. :-[
