just to add on, i have seen people write ielts 4-5 times until they got the desired results, i know it takes weeks to get seats and prepare, but EVERY SINGLE point counts... just ask the guys in the forums everywhere who have 481 score, and cutoff has not decreased from 482 since last several months.
thestunner316 has a great point here. I missed the cutoff in January by one point. This happened to me twice so make sure you max out and get every single point you can get. I then lost 5 points after my birthday, so currently sitting at 447, so I'm exploring all avenues. I may not get there with 447 points, so I'm also hoping for OINP, however I began taking French classes in spring 2015, and I'm planning on sitting for the TEF in late spring or early summer 2017. One way or another!

is there any news, about Oinp?
Haven't seen any updates on OINP. I'm waiting to hear from people who have received a PT NOI, and the last update on the site is from 8/23. It's only in reference to the entrepreneur stream.

Hi Folks,

Is there any chance of a person getting invited wit just 412 points? My score is so low since i am working for my self here and so i don't have a "job" here. I worked for 6 months and then my contract ended and i've working for my own company ever since.

Thanks.

440 points here. Bachelors 3 year, Native English and eligible for CEC and FSW. Ugh.

Aside from a masters (unafordable) I am not sure how else to achieve this without the elusive LMIA or PNP.

(While in Canada, I was refused an LMIA as I was 'over qualified'. Ugh.)

Ahh man that sucks. 447 has a very good chance though if what they are saying is true(about the points coming down) Anyway... I am currently working on my french as well. I intend to take the TEF around the same time you intend to, I'm doing fairly well with reading/listening practices but speaking remains an issue for me(I cannot find the words I need in my head quickly enough to hold a conversation easily) would you be interested in practicing together?

lots of guys seem to be taking french, it is something i would be interested in... not just for points - it might come in handy if and when we move to canada in the future....

so the question is - where are you guys taking the course from ? how intensive is it , and finally - does it look like an average person can do ??

Hello

I have a score of 438, I have the following on IELTS Listening 8.5 reading 7(I was shocked at the bad reading result) writing 7.5 and speaking 7.5
And this from my first try at IELTS(though a month of practice at home) I am wondering if I should repeat it, as I could get an extra 3 points out of express entry and be 441 if I can hit that max on the reading. But since I am surprised at my reading result since it was ironically the only part I was 100% sure of, and I have no clue where I could have made mistakes, I am a bit hesitant.

Anyway, now I am busting my hump trying to improve my french, I took french as a kid (last course was 9 years ago) So I have a decent base to build on, but that TEF exam is 400 euros... So right now I am doing a bit of french while waiting for scores to come down. I am 27 years old, applicants start losing points at 30 and above I think?(5 points for each year beyond 30) So I figured no rush until I start closing on 30(which by then I have to repeat the IELTS anyway)

Do you guys think there is a real chance of the requirements dropping to around 430? I read/heard that they will no longer be taking from the old system beyond this October... And some even saying it will reach down to 400(which to me seems overly optimistic...)

Anyway that was kind of a pointless ramble, goodluck to everyone :)
i would suggest you write the ielts again... and use the test results of whatever is highest...
reading is ridiculously easy :) possibly the easiest of them all... i'm sure if you get 8.5 in listening, getting 8 in reading next time around wont be that difficult.
draws will never, EVER, and i repeat - EVER come down to 430s level (i can bet my kidney on it lol).. i would be amazed even if it falls down to 450-460 level, so i would strongly consider PNPs (LMIA might not be easy to obtain)

guys who are in their mid -late 20s, i would consider doing an MBA course for 2 years, even if its part time. it will add max 40 points to your profile... OK i know there is no guarantee this system will still be in place in 2 years time, points system will change for sure but it will be good for your careers in the long term.

The thing is, when I did the reading the first time around I was dead sure I aced it. I even finished 10 minutes early and reviewed. It was the last thing I was worried about when I finished the exam. In fact, I was worried more about the speaking part because I had a 5 seconds awkward silence in the 2 min speech test(I just ran out of ideas not words) and I was 10 words short in the writing test so I was also concerned about that, both these parts I ended up getting the max needed. But the reading? It was easy, I am surprised I didn't do as well and since I cannot say why I didn't do so well, I am not so open to repeating it.

Don't be too pessimistic, it will definetly go back down to 450, any lower than that is speculations but 450 is almost certain. I tried doing a masters but I guess I am at a point in my life where I am not willing to do any work unless I am paid for it, and university is just full of bullshit assignments, bureaucracy etc... I no longer have the patience for. I quit after one semester in the masters program, I passed the semester, then gave the university the finger and left.

Concerning french, I was at a "french school" when growing up, from the age of 3 till the age of 18, we took math and sciences in french, we had 8 hours of french a week, in total about 30 hours of french material a week(counting the math and science materials that were in french vs 2 hours of english total) and for some odd reason, I am excellent in english and I suck at french, I've been out of school and hence no longer been using french for the past 9 years, my university was in English. And I was never a good student when it came to french, so right now I am trying to refresh and build on my previous skills. I've been watching some french cartoons, converting my computer games on steam to french and tryign to do a bit of reading everyday. I did not enroll in a school, I have all the french basics down including pronunciation, my weakness is vocabulary, I need to learn more words, and I need to be able to find the words I already know quickly enough(in my head) very often I know the words I wish to say, but there is like a 5 seconds lag to find these words... with more actual practice this could be resolved.

I checked out all the so called "advanced french courses" on the internet. There was nothing new in there for me, even the most advanced course is too basic. And really at some point there is nothing anyone can do for you, you just need to read more, speak more and write more.

its not a question of being pessimistic, CIC controls the number of invites handed out in each draw, and they will ensure scores dont go down that much... plus you have to remember between february/march 2016 and now, 1000s of candidates with 450+ scores have entered in the draw, making things much more competitive than before...

ah lucky you regarding french, i have to talk to someone who has started with the basics recently... i know it will take atleast 2 years of intensive work for me to get any good at it... question is whether i have the time and patience to do this, not to forget i need a really good teacher slash institution...

guys who are taking up french recently - any suggestions on how to go about things ??

I am considering to go for french language.......

Even though, it may look similar to English in written form, but is completely different when it comes to speaking(Pronunciation) ...

Anyhow, i am at 441 & learning french seems to be only way of improving the score, although, it will going to be a difficult ride..
