Please tell me you're joking. Oh my God. No.
I know. It hurts all the more because of that split-second of elation when I saw the 'New' message in MyCIC turning into utter disappointment when I saw the words 'Refusal'.

C'est la vie.

This is devastating.

How can they do this at this stage?!? It's been 4 months. Did you see this coming at all? Any indication whatsoever that something wasn't right about it?

I am so sorry Asivad. What exactly did you provide as POF?

I didn't mention anything about debt either but my POF was about 30% more than the required amount.

My funds in the bank were at least 25% more than the required amount. Where it could've tripped me is the absence of an LOE to explain that my dad gave me those funds (the officer acknowledges the signed self-declaration letter from my dad mentioning the gift so that's not the issue) on a particular day hence those funds were clearly not in my account for the last 6 months. That 'missing link' was in the LOE which should've dotted the i's and crossed the t's. I suspect it never transmitted properly (strongly suspect this) or wasn't up to the mark (remote possibility because it was a clean transaction).

The line about debts is a clear indicator that the officer looked at my bank statement which mentions a low average balance of 6 months and a high present balance. That has to be explained undoubtedly and somehow, in my case, the explanation was either missing or not good enough. Which is disheartening because I don't have clarity on what I should send along with the CSE - the same explanation or fresh documents from the bank. I will think this through over the weekend and update the forum after I send in the CSE.

I think you should send a CSE clarifying the situation. It's funny because my friend who also got ITA on March 27 was asked to resubmit his proof of funds a couple weeks ago.

I'm kind of in the same situation as you. I got a large cheque from work for a refund of the some of the tuition I spent on my MBA. About 2/3 of the required amount came from my pension fund and the rest was from that bank account. The account is funded directly from my salary and it's clear to make the connection from the pay slips to that account because there's a line item "Bank Name" and the amount and the statements show the amount being credit to the account. I provided the letter and statement from that bank. The balance over the last few months was kinda low then steadily increased as I stabilised myself after finishing tuition payments and could start saving properly again.

I'm wondering if I should upload a CSE to clarify any concerns they may have. I have very little other debt (maybe a little over CA$1,000 which is mostly credit card debt).

So question, is it that you didn't provide any documentation of your father's funds? Were the funds actually in the account? What else might they have been expecting? I am really having trouble wrapping my head around this.

I didn't provide my father's account statement, Yes. But that is not required because CIC doesn't question the source of funds for a gift. I'm certain that they refused my application because the officer did not find sufficient evidence in my application that these exact same funds increased my present balance considerably beyond the average balance. That is the missing link. I did not upload bank statements from my account either because I presumed that the LOE would suffice. That presumption probably ensured my rejection because the bank statement would've clearly shown the credit.

Well, hindsight is 20/20.

It sure is. If you didn't mention this I wouldn't realise that I have more work to do on the application. My job slips show a tertiary loan and I now realise that I need to upload a CSE showing the loan balance. Basically I'm going to work on providing updated proof of funds to explain EVERYTHING.

Can't take any chances with them, they could have asked for clarification from you. Wow, this is just too much.

Precisely why I scheduled the 'self-blame + ruminating + getting wasted' session for the weekend and posted this here right away. Each one of us can't afford to make the same mistakes individually and every additional bit of information helps someone out there.

Having said that, don't overthink and stress yourself. The most logical explanation for my refusal has to be that 'the explanation' was missing.

My friend, I know how you feel now. I went through the same thing & it can be disheartening. Dont lose heart and try again. You have entered the pool again & hopefully you will get ITA soon. I'm definitely sure you will get again. We all are behind you mate.
I still think you should take a chance with CSE.

Thanks for the kind words, vishalv.

I'm definitely contemplating a CSE but I will have to think that through before sending it out. The fact that CIC didn't respond to your CSE is pretty discouraging though. I'm keeping all options open. Let's hope the next couple of draws help on the ITA front as well.

I am currently IN Canada and applying through EE. However, I will be leaving Canada in two months. Should I put my mailing address to the one OUTSIDE of Canada? Or should I keep my address in Canada and have someone forward me the mail if needed?

Please help!

Update your address closer to the time you physically move out of Canada. Keep your address up-to-date on your profile.

Thanks for your quick response!

Can I just update my address on the EE website? I was checking on the CIC website and it says to change address outside of canada is through the local embassy. And also my file will be send to the local embassy as well? I am not sure if this is how it used to be done before EE came about.

Under EE, you cannot update your application after submission. You will have to send in a CSE to request CIC to make those updates in your profile.

Asivad - I am so upset hearing this news...as mentioned by others before me, you have really been a great source of knowledge and learning for all of us... I feel sorry to hear this and I understand how devastating it can be. Having said that, I guess the only option is to look ahead and not regret it... and I'm sure you will have some very positive results in the coming future.. and it will be a lesson learnt for all future interaction with CIC or any related authorities... anytime..

Best of Luck!
