Have a look at the following link:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/assess/Education.asp

Also even though u have 16 yr education looking at the self assessment if you select

Obtained a university degree of two years or more at the bachelor’s level and completed at least 14 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies

you score 20 points. This might be a little orthodox compared to your masters and no. of yrs of education. If your total pts are 67 that is wat matters.

Coming to your certifications, the certifications do not help in immigration. A person with similar educational background like yours without a certification might also be eligible based on the points, type of education and NOC code. The certifications will surely help while you apply for jobs there.

I am Aamir 35 years Old from Pakistan, just going to file my application for skilled worker. I just need your assistance regarding education points. I have the following education:

M.Phil Course Work Know as MAS i.e. Master in Applied Sciences (in Applied Economics) from Applied Economic Research Centre. University of Karachi, I got admission after country wide competitive exam for the admission of this course at world wide known centre. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------1 year program
Masters (Economics) ------------------------------------------2 year program
Bachelor (Major Economics) -------------------------------------2 year Program

I have consult with one local consultant saying that I will get the same marks for MA (Economics) & no additional marks will be awarded for my MAS, as it shows that it is another Master degree & no extra points awarded to additional Master Degree holders if someone have more than one Masters.
But its Name shows it is Master but it was the complete one year course work of M.Phil as stated on my Mark sheet.

On the other hand I have completed 17 year of education from Pakistan. But I don’t know if they award the same marks to all whether they studied from Pakistan, U.K or Canada in the same period or with the same degree?

So please advise me how many points I achieved 22 OR 25?

I'm bringing this old topic back to life for a round of questions... I am not sure how to properly assess my education.

If I count strictly the number of years that I attended a school or university, then I have:

9 years primary + junior high
3 years high school
4 years BA
2 years MA (from a canadian university)
2 years PhD (it's ongoing)

Totalling 20 years, and with a completed MA degree, I should get the full 25 points.

But if I follow the "15 hours per week during the academic term", the figure changes
9 years primary + junior high
3 years high school
4 years BA
18 "credit hours" MA (the second year is research for the MA thesis, so there are no classes, but I'm at school all day, and paying full tuition as well)
PhD (for the moment I have completed 2 years of fulltime studies)

I am not sure what to do. At this point I contacted the Canadian university to sort out my "full time" status (I guess there's no national definition of what full time means?), and contacted the PhD school to see if I can get a document showing I am actually studying all day...

Also, the PhD is a full-time job for which I am paid (not a scholarship, but a job). So the PhD is both Education and Work Experience at the same time, at least in my case. Theoretically I could argue that I am working 37 hours per week AND studying 37 hours per week. Could I?

1, If you have your Masters degree, and it took you 18 years (if I add correctly) then you would get 25 points (same as a PHD) see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/factor-education.asp

The trick is what they will consider as "full time". When you are in a research master's degree, you have a few courses, and the rest of the time you're researching for your thesis. you are registered full time at the university, but you don't have courses or classes. So, whereas I can prove that I was enrolled full time, I cannot prove that I was receiving "15 hours of instruction per week". If they acknowledge that full-time status is enough, then I'm good. Otherwise, it becomes a bit more complicated, but I think I still qualify for the 25 points:
9 + 3 + 4 + 2 + 2 = 20 :)

oh god, I spent more than two thirds of my life at school :)

If I have 13 years of full time continuous study…..
and a gap of many years ( that is due to work )
Then another 1 year of part time diploma ( but with attending to lectures of 15 hours or more per week )

Will I get 15 points for the above education ?

Will 3 year bachelor diploma from Rotterdam School of Management be sufficient as an indication of how many years I studied, or would I have to prove that I studied 15 years of my life (including elementary school diploma, high school diploma etc.)?
