I have a Bachelor of Science from a UK university and a Master of Science from UK university also.
However, if I add all the years of full-time study from the age of 6 (Primary, Secondary and University) it adds up to 16 years of full-time study... CIC website says:

A master’s or Ph.D. and completed at least 17 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies

The next level down says...

Two or more university degrees at the bachelor’s level and completed at least 15 years of full-time or full-time equivalent studies

So, where do I fall? How many points would I get?

Thank you for your help.

Can anyone else please confirm that?
How come that one year weights more than my Master's level, when the only reason why I have 16 years is because I managed to finish my degree in 3 years instead of 4 by taking extra credits and studying really hard.

Masters and 16 years will get you 22 points.

To get 25 points, one must have masters/PhD AND 17 years of education.

If you finished a 4 year degree in 3 years, maybe you can calculate equivalency. I think 15 credit hours (as defined in Canada) as one full time semester. So perhaps you can show that you did 120 credits, which is equivalent to 4 years of full time study. I don't know if this will work so can someone else confirm that?

Yes, he is right, that's the way the system works.

Extract taken from page 19 of the Operation Manual for Skilled Workers: http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/resources/manuals/op/op06-eng.pdf

"Example: 1. If an applicant has a master’s degree, but only 16 years of education, an officer would go
down to the category for which the applicant meets the total number of years and, using this example,
award 22 points"

Regards.

What about people that don't have formal school credentials? Like somone with a professional certificate/online diploma and years of experience. As you everyone knows that some online courses are based on hours and not years. So how would a diploma course of 180 hours be rated? All sensible inputs will be highly appreciated.

are such diplomas recognized by your government authority, can you give an example. I am not sure how such would be handled but i am trying to think of an example of such a diploma that i might know and see how i think CIC would consider it.

Hello,
I have the Master's degree during 6 academic years of full-time studies (16-20 hours per week) and 10 years of studies in a secondary school in the Soviet Union that is the equivalent of 12 years of studies in other countries. How many points can I obtain? Thank you!!!

Hi Victor1973,

Maybe you can check this previous post: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/-t19947.0.html

Even though you believe your 10 year high school years are "worth" 12... I still think they will count them as 10, because at the end, they are 10...

Regards.
