Hi all,

We are planning to land this summer and spend a few days there and return back home. Have some doubts regarding the documents to carry.

1. Will the IO ask for our original educational certificates while doing the landing formalities?

2. Can we use bank statement as proof of funds?

Please guide...

Nisha, sorry I am also having a similar situation, and looking for some inputs from seniors.

I have my Savings & checking account in USD in a credit union, will a 6 month statement from the bank + a few thousand (2-3k) be enough while doing the landing?

What does it mean when you say convertible currency? It can be changed easily with other known international currencies.

Hi Nisha,
Even three month bank statement is sufficient. You can also pre-open a Canadian Bank a/c from your home country e.g Delhi ,through Scotiabank & ICICI Bank .There are lot of information in this post about funds on others thread. If you are carrying more than C$10,000, tell a Canadian official when you arrive in Canada. If you do not tell an official, you may be fined or put in prison. These funds could be in the form of:

•cash
•securities in bearer form (for example, stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills) or
•negotiable instruments in bearer form (for example, bankers’ drafts, cheques, travellers’ cheques or money orders).

You will be able to access your money in liquid form and in Canadian dollars, once landed in Canada.
