Hello Sonea
I am in edmonton for the past one month and looking for a decent job. Could you help? Thanks.

@ umair & other seniors in Edmonton,
How are the chances for a mech engineer to get a decent job as a supervisor/engineer in mfg field.I am a mech engineer with almost 12 yrs exp. in production/mfg of raw materials, ceramics, glass. As we know, being a regulated profession, one need to have P. engg. certificate but it takes years to get through P. engg.In that scenario, how can we get the job?If we see the job sites and job requirements, what I've found is sometimes they want only registered engineer which means registered to the provincial authorities but not P. engg.
Experienced guys can throw some lights on it pl.
Regards,
Edmonta

as we are slowly settling in Edmonton, this city is good population is less and snow every where, but with good heating facilities. we just have hired a flat in edmonton near to my kids school area and a bus stop. you need to do lot of things before coming here. you can to to a property dealer as property dealer are responsible for only one or two flates not all area, flat rent ranges are

1000 to 1300 CAD excluding Electricity and Phone, internet, cable which almost costs 150 CAD. AND HOUSES ARE FOR 1200 TO 2500 CAD. I will send you a hotel address as last night i went to met some one there which was cheap. and clean for 35 CAD a night. we gota flat for 1125 +85+50

although we brought many clothing for kids and our selves but keeping in view of many discounts offered by many big stores there is no much difference. so bring some for kids and your self for one month. houses are fully heated so no need to bring blankets or other stuff. you can get things from peoples who are moving to other places. we got good and reasonable things from an Arab lady. from bed to car.

there are three areas north, south and west. mostly Asian are in south region. so all depend on your preferences. we are in north. not with desi peoples.
some arab and all local people are here. if you need any specific information please let me know.
a

dear,
I am from Bangladesh and planning to move very soon. I like to stay in Calgery/Edmonton. which city is suitable for adjustment and easy to get job. Is Edmonton house rent/cost is less than Toronto?

Great thread. Specially, Umair's post for helping others.

Well, I may land in Edmonton but still undecided between Edmonton or Brampton (suburbs of Toronto).

Anyone can give opinion over jobs prospectus for chemists here in Edmonton?

Keep it up friends. :)

Thanks for your reply bro.

I am looking to join NAIT for 2 years diploma in Chemical Engineering technology or Chemical technology and for admission I am also preparing myself for IELTS (Academic) and WES credential evaluation before arrival. I have another choice of same diploma but in 1year from DURHAM College (Oshawa, Ontario). But I am confused mainly because of,

1. How will I manage my family's expanses along with studies specially if I joins NAIT.

2. If I opts Durham college, then diploma from Ontario college will have same value in Alberta as of NAIT's.

Do u have anyone in contact studying in NAIT (specially immigrant) whom I can discuss my concerns.

JazakAllah & take care.

Salman.

I've never seen proper winter clothing in karachi u can try in Sadar market but still it will be hard to find it gets -40 with wind chill here so u can imagine what type of clothing would suit

U should buy thermal inners, u can get them from from saddar, and some sweaters if by any chance u have to go to Islamabad may be u can find something there but still as its summer I don't suppose it will be easy for u to find a proper jacket..

Don't buy any leather jacket like the ones available at jaferjees they are good to use for style but useless for winter season.

Even in Canadian stores there are no more winter jackets they will start restocking before winter but that will be on regular price
