Hi Jason, have you applied for a WP or visa yet? It might take longer to apply than you think so please make sure you check everything :)

With a bank account there are a few different banks that you could open an account with however the only one I found that will let you set up an account from outside Canada is Bank of Montreal.. Let us know how you get on :)

Job prospects are goog here just do some certificate or diploma in relevent field immidetly you get offer, but with out that you have to live on odd jobs till luck favours. engineers can join edmonton mennonite cente as one year free courses which is good for getting relevent job in engineering.
Hello Umair
I have been in edmonton for the past 18 days. I have my SIN, bank account, health card done. Its very cold. You mentioned two things in two different posts of yours. One for some course here and two for some starting job. Can you please help me with both.

Is there someone in Edmonton who has been a immigrant and has some knowledge about how life goes on here? What should one do to survive? Thanks.

Dear friend thanks for your advice to go to alberta work center. I went there as soon as I landed here on the advice of CIIP. People there were surprised to know that I had reached Canada without being given a few target jobs and confirmed residence by CIIP. After this what was even more amazing was their reply towards finding a residence here. What they said was that even we are looking for a place to live and are not able t o find it. Our contract at our current home is about to expire and we have not been able to find a new place yet. To me this meant that if they find a place they would first keep it for them. Now if they themselves need help how can they help any of us?
For job also the only option they had was at walmart or any local shop irrespective of your education and experience.
Rest you can decide about your approach.
