Early travel

I know this question might’ve been asked frequently here, but I couldn’t really get the correct answer.

My situation is that my semester begins on October 1st 2021. I’ve booked a flight for next week. As I’m not fully vaccinated, I’ll need to quarantine for 2 weeks, look for new apartments, buy furniture, appliances, set up the apartment, get used to the city, campus and have everything ready right before my semester begins. We also have our student orientation 1 week before the semester starts.

So if I come around 1.3 months early, is that a problem? I have all the extra funds to fully support me in this extra month and 2 weeks. I obviously won’t be working or doing anything that violates my study permit. My aim is just to be fully ready before my semester begins because of course, looking for a new apartment and settling in takes a lot of time and isn’t soemthing easy to be done.

I would highly appreciate your help and advices

IRCC has recommended 4 weeks before classes. I have also seen people get in with 5 weeks. I am afraid you may be pushing it. If possible consider postponing a little to be safer

Definitely understandable. But the thing is I booked my flight before knowing about any of this. I’m not sure I can postpone the booking. Do you think if I explain why I came early regarding apartment search and necessary things that need to be done and prove the extra funds, they’ll let me in?

maybe or maybe not. Honestly, I was searching online and pre-covid I found many people who had gone 2 months earlier and were okay. So I think it really depends on your luck at this point.

Your need for quarantine makes a good case.
You are RIGHT in coming in early too.

No one here can tell you if you will be allowed in if you arrive to early. That will be up to CBSA. It may work out or it may not.

CBSA doesn't care how long ago you booked or the conditions on your ticket, and I doubt you can sway them with any argument as they've heard it all before. They are strictly enforcing the 4 weeks prior rule now, at all airports.

No one can tell you what will happen, but there's a higher likelihood that you will be sent back. FB and Reddit is littered with students sharing their experience of being turned back at the border for coming earlier than the specified 4 weeks (28 days).

i ask my Uni about coming in early as well and they reiterate the 4 weeks recommended travel. Also, check with your airlines as i've seen in the news that there are students who tried to land earlier than the recommended and they were not allowed to board.
