what information are you providing when completing the information?

You have to go to the following site:

https://services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/?app=ecas&lang=en

once you agree to the conditions, for Identification Type you can use the Receipt number from the application fee you submitted online (usually a letter followed by 9 numbers) or your Client ID number if you have recevied the official letter from CPC-M approving your sponsor.

For the personal information, you must complete it using your sponsor's information (last name, date of birth and country of birth).

To log-in to eCAS, the eCAS tracker that matthewc developed only uses the information that you provided when you signed up for it. It has no special ability to log-in apart from the info you provided - it's simply a program that automates what you would do if you manually logged in to eCAS yourself through the CIC link. So, whatever information you provided when you signed up for the tracker should also work to manually access eCAS through the CIC link.

Outland aps: once the application has been input into the database at the overseas embassy, you should be able to log-in to eCAS using the applicant's identifying information and the file number provided to you by the embassy in the letter they send to you acknowledging receipt of the ap. You can also log-in to eCAS using your sponsor's identifying information and the client ID# given to him/her in the sponsorship approval letter received from CPC-Mississauga. After the application gets to the overseas visa office, there should be a link through the sponsor's portal to the applicant's file info. It's not always possible to use your fees receipt number for successful log-in. I never was able to do that, although I was able to successfully log-in both with my client ID# and with my sponsor's client ID#. After the application was at the overseas visa office, I had to use my file number to access eCAS. My client ID# no longer worked, although my sponsor's still did.

I'm not sure at which point an inland applicant can access eCAS, or what info you'd use since there is no confirmation of receipt of the application until first stage approval. I suppose you can log-in with the applicant's client ID#, if s/he already has documented temporary status in Canada - but without a client ID#, if the receipt number won't work, I'm not sure how you'd log-in.

ya i am able to login to ecas with my wifes details, she is the sponsor. e-CAS tracker is helpful as it does automated checks.

One question, i have done my medical but have asked the doctors to hold it from sending to Medical office as it requires a file number. As per your info, looks i will get it when embassy receives my application there ? And will it be late to inform my doctor to send my medical then ?

Just got an email from ECAS Tracker:

Latest update:

We sent you a letter on May 4, 2010 about the decision on your application. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us.

Since I sent my sponsorship application for my dad in June 2007, this is the first time I could log into ECAS....

I realise this is a necropost, but I only just saw this thread. For reference...

The e-CAS tracker doesn't have any magical powers to access e-CAS, and (like robsluv said) just works with the info you give it. However, it does do a couple of "clever" things you might not think to do. This only applies if you can't access e-CAS when you sign up for the tracker (if you can access it already, it simply uses the details that are already known to be working).

The main one (which is what causes the most problems for people) is that it tries alternatives for your surname. E.g. if you put in two names in the surname field, say "Smith Phillips" it tries:

1) Smith Phillips
2) Smith
3) Phillips

It's surprising how many people misread the instructions, and put their full name in, which is part of the reason I started making it do that. Occasionally though, there are people with multiple last names, or hyphenated last names, where only one last name actually works in e-CAS.

Second, if there is any potential ambiguity for your country of birth, it tries all of the possibilities - e.g. UK, England, Scotland, Wales. Normally when people check e-CAS manually to see if it works, they just put in their "correct" country of birth. UK almost never works, England usually does (even for people born in Scotland).

For some people it tries 8 or 10 different combinations of surnames, countries, and login ID's.

Now, when it emails you it does say which combination is the one that's actually working, so there shouldn't be a situation where the tracker can access e-CAS but someone doesn't know themselves what info to put in to access e-CAS manually. If there's ever confusion though, my contact info is very easily accessible from the website.

Thanks for this detailed information. I have been using this tool during my PR application and it has been updating me accurately as and when there is any update to my case on eCAS. My app is in final stages, and i really hope that your tracker be the one to update me first when my app is approves.

Thanks a lot for such a wonderful tool.

Does ecas work if you have gone through appeal?
Yes, it seems so.

I only know of one person who used the tracker through an appeal, robsluv. In that case, e-CAS stopped working after the application was refused, but after the appeal was won, and once the application was sent back to the visa office, e-CAS started working again.

Hey Matthew.

I don't know if you still come to this forum, but I wanted to thank you for the E-cas Tracker. I just found out about it and I am spreading the news to my fellow applicants here in Brazil.
It was very nice of you to share this tool with everyone, very nice gesture. You are a good soul. :)
