Friends,

I just saw a below note in esdc website.

Effective July 2014 immediately, the duration of work permits set out in Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) will be limited to a maximum of one year for all low-wage positions, rather than the 2 year duration that existed previously. Employers of temporary foreign workers must reapply every year for an LMIA, better-accommodating for changes in labour market conditions that might have occurred.

Does anybody have any input on this?? Please advise.

What input are you expecting? The ESDC website is a master reference for this information...

Yes from now on, they're only issuing LMIAs for a maximum duration of 1 year rather than 2 years for low-skilled jobs. However, if you have a pre-moratorium LMO that has 2 years on it, then CIC or CBSA will still give you a 2-year permit. Aside from that, the new rules stand and all of us have to unfortunately suck it up and deal with the new rules.

Hi StopDA,

Thanks for clarifying on this. The new rule is very strange for TFW's

one more question. how long we are allowed to stay as TFW ( low-skilled job) ?

Two years starting from next year.

Hi StopDA,

Thanks again for your swift response. Is there any way for TFW- low skilled people are eligible to apply for PR ?

Provincial nomination programs and the live-in caregiver program. But right now, the permanent residence prospects for live-in caregivers is under attack by Kenney and Alexander.

*for low-wage, not skilled, although most low-skilled jobs will be below the median wage as well
