Just to make everyone feel a bit better about their own processes.

So my friend just got my QLD traffic history and there's a SPER referred fine for not voting last year... I'VE LIVED IN CANADA FOR 3 BLOODY YEARS!!! Of course I wasn't there to vote! Obvious mistake but my CIC deadline for these forms is a week away. I requeste a sheet clearly outlining this mistake and will send tha to CIC Syd with an explanation of what happened. My driving record has alway been flawless, surely CIC has never rejected a case because someone didn't vote. Arrggghhhh! Advice anyone?

I'm not sure what all those abbreviations mean, but here goes.

I doubt this is going to be any kind of issue for you. First of all it's not a criminal conviction (is it?) and second of all, it's not a crime in Canada to not vote, which is what the VO will look at (if he looks at it at all). Don't worry about it.

I thought CIC requests Australian driving records as the impaired driving laws are not administered under criminal law but under the road/traffic law? A DUI would show up there, not under a criminal record check. On travel forums you see a lot of posts from Australians complaining that they should be admissable to Canada because a DUI isn't a criminal conviction (in Australia).
In any event, I do not think you have anything to be concerned about.

Thanks, I hope you're right! I'm sure you are, has anyone heard of anyone being rejected because they didn't vote in a country they weren't a resident of for over 2 years at the time? I would start questioning the system if they did! I requested a letter from SPER (I don't know what that stands for but it's a national collection agency of some kind in Australia) that states exactly what the silly fine is. It should arrive tomorrow an I will send both requested CIC certificates, the SPER letter and a letter from me with my UCI etc as well as addressing this issue. Aside from not voting I've never had any kind of conviction in any country. Ever. Not even a parking ticket. I'm sure this will be fine but the wait until I hear back from CIC Sydney may actually kill me. I don't know if my heart or nerves can take much more! Haha. Thank you for your reply!

Canada has about a 30% voter turnout so you will fit right in.

Just because DUI is not a criminal offense in Australia doesn't mean it is not criminal in Canada. Or that Canada condone it just because it was done outside Canada. This is no difference from countries that allow polgamy / bigamy. They may be legal in certain countries doesn't mean Canada can allow them into Canada where polgamy / bigamy is illegal.

I know DUIs and polgamy are two unrelated matter but they do share a common theme. They are both illegal in Canada.

Haha, hey! I was out of the country! =P Plus I firmly believe that some people simply shouldn't have that power... Look at the leaders of my country as it is, I'd rather not have to vote when I don't understand the parliament and leave it to those that do! Voting not being mandatory in Canada is just one more reason I love it, especially after this!

I was explaining why CIC requests a traffic history from Australians. Where did I say a DUI wasn't criminal in Canada? I said they request the trafffic history because it is a criminal charge in Canada.

Good Morning

Please submit the document for review. The conviction may not affect your admissibility to Canada. You include a letter of explain nation regarding the offence when lodging the QLD Traffic History.

So fingers crossed I'm all good!

Yes you were explaining why CIC request traffic history from Australians. But my post was directed toward the complaining Australians who believe that their DUI should not matter as it is not criminal in their country and explain why traffic police is just as important as criminal record checks as DUIs are recorded there if one had any.

Congrats on getting a response on your police traffic record. I didn't think it would be an issue with CIC all along. You should be good to go. :)
