Friends, I need your help
My time line as on indicated left - medicals were done on the 20th Feb 2016,location-UAE And I am just waiting for the Passport request from LVO It's nearly 50 days from MR with no update. I am planning to raise a GCMS again
I have plans to travel to the States in June and I wish I could get the canadian label before I move out of the UAE and not be surprised by an email for PPR when I am in the US
Any person in the forum had used a method to trigger the LVO guys in persuading for PPR , please share and most welcome
Regards

I know it's probably a stupid question, but

What is Soft Landing?

That is when you land to finish your "Landing Process", and then return to where you came from. Essentially you finish the landing process but do not settle permanently. You then return later when you are better suited.

Thanks for the explanation.

You can go back anytime you want as long as you maintain your "Residency Obligation". i.e. 730 days in any rolling 5 year period. This is particularly important when you want to renew your PR Card, which is valid for 5 years.

As an example, you land on January 1, 2016. Your 5 year PR Validity starts then (not 100% sure on this PR Card Validity may start from issue date. Seniors can confirm).
If you left immediately on the 1st, after completing your landing formality, you can come back to Canada before 1 Jan 2020, and then stay in Canada for the remaining period of validity on your PR Card. Any later, and you may be reported for not being able to meet your Residency Obligation. Please note that in any case, you will not be denied entry to Canada.

In case you do enter after 1 Jan 2020, you will not be able to renew your PR Card till you meet the RO again (i.e. meet the 730 day residence).

Without a valid PR Card, you will not be able to board a commercial transport to enter Canada.

Note: Your PR cards validity is not the same as your PR. What this means is that If your PR card expires, it does not mean you have lost permanent resident status. (See link below)

Hey Hot2Cold, I think you meant 1 Jan 2019. 730 means 2 years.

I stand corrected. It's 2019.

Whenever you enter Canada, you must be able to complete 730 days before your PR Card expires.

I have read that the in order to keep PR valid

1. we have to complete 730 days (2 years) within the 5 year period.

2. stay at least 180 days (6 months) per year.

Do both of the above conditions need to be fulfilled?

can you shed light on # 2 also? as asked by another forumites....
