hi

there is no agent or office to open a bank account in Canada from Dubai

the best option as of now is Scotia bank - Start Right prog. account , so that u dont have any charges for the first year including a normal size locker. after 1 year u can transfer to TD or any other bank u like

Do not open in HSBC as they have vvv few brances and Atm machines here

Best is TD as they are open 8am to 8 pm and 7 days in a week. but they dont have the facility of 1 year free as scotia . 2nd best is scotia bank. as they have many Atm s.

Hi All

As we are coming close to making the final move there are a lot of questions cropping up

The key one for us currently is gold - While we have a stamped list of all the gold jewellery and were hoping to sell some of it before moving, our current thought process is to carry all the gold with us as the rate of gold is quite low and there are signs that it will remain at this level for sometime.
While taking stock of the jewellery we realized that it will be picked up quite easily at the Xray in Dubai ( since it will be in our hand baggage and not checked in)

Does anyone know of the procedure to get some documentation signed/stamped by Dubai customs to avoid any hassles at the airport.
The reason I ask is because my mother got stopped recently at the airport wen she was carrying 4 gold sets for her use to India during my cousin's wedding

Any help/guidance in this matter is appreciated

Thanx

buddy

u need bills for the gold or else u will be 100% stopped and its a mess (if u have more) until u prove that u wont be able to board the flight.

wearing personal ornaments is not an issue .....its only if they found gold or ornaments in your hand bag ?

R u guys talking about taking Gold out of Dubai, I dont think there is any restriction on taking Gold out of Dubai, I had taken a Gold bar few years back, and went through the scanners, no one asked any thing.

But it might be a problem in country you are taking it into.

Hi Humsafar

If you don't mind me asking was it a large quantity ?
I'm talking about all the gold we have - my wife was born and brought up in Dubai and I have lived a major part of my life here so we have a sizable amount of gold that we will be carrying in hand
I spoke to the Dubai customs helpline who confirmed that there is no restriction but advised that I go to the airport and meet a customs officer to avoid hassles before we travel
I'll give you all an update in the next 2-3 days

hi guys. . thank you for ur comments about taking gold out of Dubai. .

But I noticed some conflicting infos. . as Biju mentioned that we need to have the "bills" with us. . . I just want to ask for the benefit of those who are currently preparing to do their landing (including me) . .. As from the previous posts, we need to prepare list of golds and pictures which we will use in the place where we chose to land, but how about going out of Dubai. . . do we need to prepare document? please guide us if there are any restrictions. . .

Appreciate if those who made their landing will share their views and insights about taking gold out of Dubai. . .

Many many thnaks. . . . .
