Hi all,
I'm from Philippines and been working here in Dubai as Engineer on Civil & Infra works since 2007. I applied for PR visa in Canada (with my spouse and 2 kids ) last March 2011 and we're just waiting for our passport to be returned after we submitted for visa stamping last 24 July 2013. Though we don't have it yet on hand (we're hoping it will be ok), i started already searching for a job online (trying my luck). I have some queries which i hope somebody from this forum can extend his/her opinions, experience or any information that can be of help to us:
1. I obtain my Bachelors degree in my home country and i doubt i can not directly work there as an engineer unless i pass their exam for Profl Engr which will take me for maybe another year/s of bridging course which varies from province to province in terms of processing. How long normally it takes before you can apply for exam? Is it possible to do the assessment of credentials even before landing or is it advisable to just do it once i settled there?
2. Initially, i plan to land in Toronto since we have a relative their to accomodate us temporarily, but im also considering the option of settling in Alberta. How is Alberta compared to Toronto in terms of jobs for civil engineers specifically in construction industry.
3. Since it is not possible for me to be hired on a regulated job (unless i'm licensed that will take some time for me), what are the possible positions related to my career and experience that i can apply for? In which province they have more opportunities for civil engineering or construction works?
Thanking in advance for any help.
