My husband was born to Canadian parents in the US. He is a Canadian and American citizen, but has lived in the US for the last 15 years. We have a 3 year old child (who we understand does not get Canadian citizenship through my husband because he was already grandfathered in by his parents).
We plan on moving to Toronto in the summer. (His parents and extended family are all citizens and live in the area.) I plan on applying for inland PR via family sponsorship through my husband. I have a valid American passport. What would the best route be to get to Canada with my husband? How can I move there and then apply for PR? Should he take our things across the border and I follow later on my passport and not mention I plan to move to Canada? That seems devious and makes me nervous.
When we visited his parents they asked my purpose and I stated visiting family and they didn't pry, but this is different.
I have read I can apply for an OWP once I have applied for PR. Is this correct? I have my bachelor's degree and will have some, but not a ton, of work experience.
I'm overwhelmed. I've read and reread the Canadian Government website regarding family sponsorship and OWPs, but am struggling to understand where to start.
Thank you!
