Good Morning :

I have my US DL Valid till this week.

And today i applied in DMV and got approved till oct. So DMV given me a printed color copy of my DL with Oct and they will mail the Plastic DL in next 21 days time..

So question is If i leave to canada before i got my new Plastic DL.. whether I am allowed to drive in Canada using my Old Plastic DL (end date this week ) along with the new Paper DL ( end date oct 21) ?

I will be moving to quebec...if that is needed.

You should be fine with your US DL extension and your origional anywhere in Canada. PQ specifies out of country DL's are only valid for 6 months if you are moving to PQ.

Yes i will surrender my US DL and get canadian one by that time, i might need to rent a car from Week 3 (After quarantine) till few weeks, to that time i figure out buying a local car and get Canada DL in exchange of US..

6 months should be sufficient time i assume to exchange..

You will have no problem renting a car with your US DL. The time frame to exchange I am not sure, I assume it will be the same as an in country exchange, they give you a temporary one on the spot initially then a permanent one will be issued shortly after. The important thing is bringing a copy of your driving history from the US state you are in, showing if your record is clear or if you have had tickets etc. Also a letter from your Auto Insurance company with your claims history. This is especially important when you go to get insurance here. Without it your insurance premiums could be very high, you would be treated as a new driver, which isn't cheap.
