Driving Letter - will it help

I am moving from Oman to Calgary in 15 days. Will it help if I get a letter from Driving license authorities in Oman stating my driving experience (I have been driving in Oman for last 10 years) ? Would it help in getting insurance discount ?

It would help you in getting the waiting time waived off for getting the license in Canada.
It wont get you any discount for insurance. For getting some discount, you should go through the safe driving course from a recognized driving school in Canada.

I just finished mine from one such school in Toronto. Not sure if the same things works in Alberta as well...

If you had automobile insurance in your previous country you can supply a new insurance company in Canada with a letter of experience from your previous insurance company for the discounts. It must be a letter from the previous company on their letterhead.

As Alurra71 indicated, you may get your past insurance history recognised for a rate discount. Not surer if Canadian insurers will accept an Omani history, though. At best, count on 2-3 years being accepted.

If you move to Alberta, talk to Intact insurance. They seem pretty decent, as insurers go.

HI THERE.... GETTING A LETTER FROM OMAN WILL SURELY BRING DOWN YOUR INSURANCE. IF YOU WANT YOU CAN TAKE A FULL COURSE FROM THE MTO OF ALBERTA BUT THAT WILL NOT BRING DOWN YOUR INSURANCE. YOU NEED TO BE WITHIN AGE 25 AND THEN IF YOU TAKE THAT DRIVING COURSE, IT WILL GET YOUR INSURANCE DOWN.
