i can get it
but would be illegal to keep both of license?????
cant find any information
does anyone have both or know anyone who has both
and mainly is it legal to do this?????????
in us i think one can have license in as many states as they want
\and even in canada
any views

Yes, it is illegal. Why do you want your US license back? If you don't live in the US you don't really need it.

I wana move to us after i get citizenship n live there n work in canada

n currently, i live very close to border so I wanna do shopping there on often

i know my canadian license is valid there for short trips but i like us license better
moreover i feel i need my us license back, but wouldnt want to give up canadian for it, and wont keep both if its illegal

i couldnt find this fact on icbc or us states drivers license website, do u have any links

They don't like you to have two licenses, probably because you might keep one license clean by always showing the other when you are stopped and if they take one, you still have the other. However, some people have been allowed to exchange their license and keep the old one. Maybe it depends on who you ask or what you give as a reason.

I dont have a link... just put your question in google and see what people are saying. Of course, there are people who keep multiple DL as there is always a way to obtain multiple drivers licenses but if you get caught with the two you can get into trouble. I have heard stories of people getting into trouble for possesing two drivers licenses.

I don't think it's advisable to always cross the border carrying two drivers licenses.

If you want to live in the US in the future, you can always exchange your Canadian back for a US. Of course unless there are other reasons you need two DL.

If you are going to live in the US, it makes sense to register your car in the US and have a US drivers license. I heard about some guy who was collecting drivers licenses so to speak, he has managed to get about 10 of them from various countries but one time he was in the UK, he was stopped for speeding. He handed the policeman one of his licenses and got his fine. Not too long after that, he was stopped again and got the same police officer but used a different license. The policeman remembered him and demanded that he hand over all his licenses and confiscated all but one.

I can understand why they don't want you to have many but I do know of cases where people have been given a Canadian license and still have been allowed to keep the old one.

i will try to get back my us licence then and first ask them, us - anonymously if it is legal to keep us n canadian both
- i will use us license after in reach there and use canadian only in canada

u said u heard people got in trouble for having 2 licenses us and canadian @ alabaman
I would aslo like to know why they got in trouble, cause it doesnt seem illegal to keep 2 licenses as in some cases people r given back their us license when they exchange it for canadian
Also, if one is at fault showing different licenses to reduce fines n stuffs then it is wrong but just driving with US license in US
and canadian in canada, having other one in my car - can this land me in trouble????
If so what kind of violation is it ????
How much fine if any apart from confiscating ????
10 licenses is too much n using them to save fines is wrong thats why the guy got his license confiscated, i believe
anyways will update once i talk with US bmv

My friend had to surrender his US license when you get his Canada license. He wants to keep the US one just for ID purpose when come to US. A few year later, he stayed in US for a couple of weeks and try to apply a new US license for the same intent, but was told that he is holding Canada license and not allowed to get US license. So seems like US and Canada share information and not allowed to be a dual licensee.
