Driver's license change...strange

Hi all,

I just had the most strangest experience. I live in NWT and I applied for my citizenship in April 2015 and its in processing stage right now. I moved to NWT from Ontario so I went to get my drivers license exchanged. I provided all my info including my name change documents and ids.

Well I've been waiting a long time and I emailed them and today I called the driving office and they said well we are waiting on something from immigration. I asked what is that and the lady said she's waiting on a status check. I was surprised so i asked form who she said from immgration...wth. I've been here a long time and all my ids except for my passport are Canadian plus my license from Ontario that i was replacing.
I said well i've never heard of that before because noone every asked me for something like that. She said all provinces and territories deal with stuff differently. She said she has to make sure that I'm in the country legally. This after she has the copies of all my ids. I have no idea how long i have to wait. In the mean time my temporary license has expired and they won't issue a new one until they hear back from immigration.
Anyone else ever had such a problem? I just feel like this lady is just slow and don't understand the process. Do you guys know how long immigration will take to provide her with status check?

So now i can't drive ugh

I'm sorry for the rant. Just frustrated. Can't wait to get my Canadian passport so I never have to go through something like this again.

This is weird. Can you call them and double check with another person (perhaps a supervisor)? I can't find anything official, and from the looks of it if you've provided them with your valid PR Card and the ON DL, it should've been enough.

I just called the Manager and he said that they have to check with CBSA about something becasue I had a name change. I was like why? He said well becasue you recently had a name change and I said no that was done years ago. All my ids except for my passport, even my Ontario DL has my new name. He was like oh. I said ofcourse i'm legally here I work for the government. They wouldn't have hired me if I wasn't.
He said the turn around is very quick and he'lll receive something by Monday and then will mail the license to me.

Still didnt answer my quesiton as to why they are trying to get info from CBSA (I think becasue they don't even know what they are doing). If this is the problem I'm having with DL i can only imagine the hard time they will give me once its time for the Citizenship test.
