Hello Folks,

I am going to be writing the citizenship test very soon but there is a concern. I had moved recently, so had to get new drivers licence, but the lady botched it and mixed up my name. I got the identity document in the mail and held on to it. But I recently went and asked them to change it back to what it was and they did. The only problem is that the drivers licence number is different than what it was before. I had submitted the photocopy of the licence with the application.

Do you guys suggest I let CIC know what had happened before the test or should I wait until the test and explain it during the interview? Or should I take additional ID like health card and so on.

Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi winpro,

I have the same issue right now so I was wondering what happened about this situation of yours.. regarding you changing your ID document.. Did you sent the new one to update your citizenship app at that time? or did you used the new document (driver's license) as proof of identity in your test day without updating your application?

Thank you!

I used Ontario Health Card as ID. The Health Card I used originally to submit my application expired midway during processing and I renewed it several months before my citizenship interview. During renewal new photo was taken and Health Card number (the last two or so alphabets) changed. So my health card was entirely different from the one in my citizenship application. However, I did not inform IRCC - my thoughts was IRCC knew or should know IDs with expiry date do expire and are renewed.

At my citizenship interview the agent asked for my ID, I gave the new Health Card and travel passports... she looks at the photo and then my face. She checks that the name on my ID matches name name on my file. That was it. She does her thing and later hands back the IDs. For me it was never an issue. I don't know if it was problem for others. Next day DECISION MADE and few days later oath letter.

Hello winpro,

Thank you very much for sharing your experience.
In my case I was living in other province before then I moved to Quebec. So for my application I sent the ID docs (driver's license and Health card) from the previous province because I didn't have the ones from Quebec yet. Now I got the ID docs from Quebec but my old driver's license from the other province was kept by the government agent because she said I couldn't keep both.. that means that don't have anymore the one I used in my application.. So I was wondering if this will be an issue during my interview. :(

I highly doubt this would make any problem, simply the idea of IDs is to verify who you are. You may send a CSE to update your file. In all cases just explain this to the officer during the interview, it shouldn't be an issue at all.

All the best.
