Hi guys,

I'm currently in the US and moving to Canada. I fall into the reciprocal category for the license swap.

My question is what document can i provide to prove that I have more than 2 years experience?

There is a list of requirements here
https://www.drivetest.ca/licences/l...nce-exchanges-cars-small-trucks-and-vans.html

Technically the closest I can get is a driving record or driving record abstract
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/drivers/drivers_license/purchaseabstract.html

Would this work?
Is there any other document i should be concerned about and consider getting?

An additional question to the above...

Does "Your license must be surrendered" imply that the Canadians will take possession of the US driver's license?

1. You would need to request certified driving abstract from the DMV. For california, there is https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/wcm/c...490-80db-b7e161a3e6b8/inf1125.pdf?MOD=AJPERES - you can submit to DMV or mail them this form

2. The online driving abstract may not be sufficient (https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/online/dr ) From https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/online/dr/dr_faqs,
Why is cost for the driver record online $2.00 versus $5.00 if I request it via mail or in a field office?
The record provided online is not considered an official document.

3. To get better insurance rates, you might separately need letter of experience from your US insurance agent.

My license was issued in Illinois, and the illinois dmv do not provided a certified driver abstract. I went to the DMV to collect one and they did stamp it.

yes, license and car title are taken by the province and sent to the ministry of transportation, in exchange for Canadian license and car title/registration.
