Doubts on transit visa

I have booked flight ticket from Chennai to Calgary, Canada on aug 22. In between I have 16 hours layover at London where I have to change airport from Heathrow airport to Gatwick airport. Since I am going to Canada, Do I have to get uk transit visa for this?

You are not transiting as you are entering the UK through immigration and then changing airports. Don’t know UK immigration laws but you need a visitor visa to enter the UK and travel to Gatwick. Having a Canadian study permit doesn’t allow you to enter the UK.

I suggest you reach out to the airline, they can help you understand if you will be checking in bags again, or if you will leave border control. UK has different rules, and you may need a transit visa or a direct airside transit visa. Depending on your flight time and layover time.
