Doubts in my first steps after reading Complete Guide

Hello there,

My fiancee and I have started to review the sponsorship process. I’ve read all the Complete Guide (IMM 5289) and I’ve a couple of questions:

1- I have more IMM Forms in the sponsorship guide than in the package, should I stick to the package forms only?

The extra forms I’m talking about are IMM 1344 and IMM 5532, in the guide says that the person being sponsored should complete them, but in the package they are mentioned only for the sponsor, not the applicant.

(The forms we are using as requirements and will be completing are the ones displayed as result here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/spouse.asp)

2- The use of a representative IMM 5476 forms, should only be completed and submitted if applying to one, or else should we discard them?

3- When applying at the same time for an Open Work Permit, I should have to complete and submit the IMM 5710 from the Open Work Permit package right?

4- Again, If I have no additional dependants should I discard the IMM0008 ADDITIONAL DEPENDANTS / DECLARATION FORM?

5- In the IMM 0008 “GENERIC APPLICATION FORM FOR CANADA”, point 6:

If “I have not received the CSQ” and, as the actual procedure goes, I can’t apply for one until I get the answer from the federal government, what should I complete in the date field? Should I leave it blank as the instructions says?

I plan to live in Montreal with my fiancee, but as far as I know I can apply for the CSQ AFTER I get the approval from the federal government.

“If you intend to live in the Province of Quebec and are applying under a Quebec immigration program, have you received your Certificat de Sélection du Québec (CSQ)?

  • Check the corresponding box
  • If you checked “Yes”, please indicate the CSQ number
  • If you checked “No”, indicate the date when you applied for your CSQ (if you have not yet applied, please do so before applying for permanent residence)
Note: If you are not applying under a Quebec immigration program, check “no” for Question 6 a) and leave 6 c) blank.”

6- At last, because I found no reference at all in the guide, refering to the APPENDIX B, when should I download and complete the following forms? Do I, as the applicant or sponsored person, need to do them? I thought that I had to get the Police Certificate and make a translation in the first place.

Thanks a lot all of you.

OK, I kept digging and managed to answer some by myself, but I can't find answer to these ones, I really need some advice:

1- When applying at the same time for an Open Work Permit, I know of course that I have to complete the IMM 5710, but, do I need to complete the IMM 5556e checklist gathering all the documents they ask too? Does someone has a guide about what to answer in this checklist, there are some stuff and documents that I really have no idea about.

2- In the IMM 0008 “GENERIC APPLICATION FORM FOR CANADA”, point 6:

If “I have not received the CSQ” and, as the actual procedure goes, I can’t apply for one until I get the answer from the federal government, what should I complete in the date field? Should I leave it blank as the instructions says?

Thanks again.

For questions 1 and 2 I'm not sure. But for number 3, I think you just submit the police clearance from the country you reside in (my husband is from Brazil and we were able to send in the police check and translation upfront). And I think the fingerprinting will be requested later unless you're from a country that requires biometrics upfront.
Sorry if that's not much help, and best of luck!

I sent in my OWP application with my PR application and only had the PR application checklist. We filled out the 5710 form, paid the OWP application fee (make sure you pay $255, not $155) and that was pretty much it, as far as I can remember. All the things they normally need (marriage certificate, passport copies, etc) are already included in the main PR application so there was no need to send doubles. I believe you need that other checklist if you're applying for the OWP alone, without including it with the PR app. It's been a while tho, so wait for confirmation from some other members.

For the Quebec question, try the Quebec section of the forum as most people here are not applying for Quebec and they're the only ones with special requirements so most of us aren't familiar with them.

This is the first time I'm seeing the two forms in your third question. When I was sending my application, we had to send in police certificates at a later point in the process. So I had mine ready and translated and just sent them in when they sent me the request. I believe now they need to be included in the app from the start so you should just put them in. I know that there are countries that don't just easily release certificates whenever you ask for it so that might be it - I've seen some people who needed to take a special request from the Canadian Immigration in to their local office in order to get the necessary police certificates. If you already have yours, that doesn't apply to you then. The fingerprint request also usually comes later and this might be the request that you take to RCMP as proof of why you need the fingerprints. I haven't gotten to that part yet so I don't know for sure.

Again, for the last question, I don't know for sure. You're applying for Quebec plus the checklists have changed since I applied so I may be wrong. Wait for more replies.

Perfect guys, more than clear everything I think...

- Regarding the OWP I'll fill out then the IMM 5710 only from the application and pay the $255. Can someone else confirm me that I dont need to follow or stick to the OWP checklist when applying within the sponsorship program?

- About question 3, the police certificate, Im gonna get in back in my home country and the translation for it too. Im not gonna take any risk about it and put it in the application so in case they ask it will be already there. About the fingerprints I will wait till they request them as you say.

- Still unanswered then is question 2 regarding Quebec in the form, I'll just copy / paste in case someone reads, else I'll follow your advice and look for that section in the forum:

In the IMM 0008 “GENERIC APPLICATION FORM FOR CANADA”, point 6:

If “I have not received the CSQ” and, as the actual procedure goes, I can’t apply for one until I get the answer from the federal government, what should I complete in the date field? Should I leave it blank as the instructions says?

Thank you all so much !
