Dear all,

I got an immigrant visa as a FSW and planning to land in toronto.
The flights from my home town is not direct to toronto, but transit through Montreal.
My question : can I go through Montreal as transit station for 2 hours an then fly to toronto and make our landing in toronto?
Your advice please ASAP, as our flight on Monday

Regards

No problem.

Sure it is a problem. The OP will have to "land" in Montreal. The flight from Montreal to Toronto would be domestic, so it doesn't arrive internationally.

I was reading another comment earlier in this discussion. It says otherwise. You can land in Montreal, and complete the formalities elsewhere. See the quote below.

Quebec Visa Holder can Land Anywhere & complete the landing & Immigration formalities anywhere.

Others too can land anywhere, but can Complete landing & immigration formalities at POE except Quebec!!!

But it still has to be at your first Port of Entry to Canada when arriving from overseas. Accounts is wrong. All Immigrants "land" at the first entry points, whether they Quebec selected or not.

You must clear immigration at your port of entry into Canada. You can't do it later.

You will complete your landing formalities at Montreal (cannot defer it till later). There won't be any problems, as you have an onward ticket to Toronto and CBSA officer will not give you any hard time. You still need to give a Toronto address to the immigration officer for delivery of your PR cards.

The only problem in your plan that I see, is the 2 hour transit time. You will have to really rush to complete your landing formalities and catch your domestic flight to Toronto.

No that is incorrect. Probably what the poster was trying to say is that the new immigrant can choose any place of settlement except Quebec when he is providing the address to the CBSA officer. Which is true, you could have a lot problems if you tell the immigration officer you intend to live in Quebec and you don't have a CSQ. I think the poster you quoted used the word landing in a wrong context.

Reading older posts (even from champion members like Qorax) there was a general impression created that without a CSQ, you could not even take the flights that arrived in Montreal first. However this has been disproven by my many members who took the Montreal flight, completed landing formalities there and took a domestic flight to their intended city of settlement.

Of the top of my head, I don't see any problem with that.

However you really should post in "International Students" section of this forum to ask other students who have had similar experiences: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/international-students-b2.0/

parminder ji,

ur visa is of temporary nature with specific intent, that is study. Ur College session starts fom January 2014. Your visa entry shall be decided at the port of landing. If immgration officer is not satisfied with ur intent to seek so early entry, u may be in trouble.
Please avoid risk prone path.
Good luck,MAY God bless all !!

if I move to Canada through Quebec skilled worker visa then,

can I land anywhere in Canada (other places like Toronto, Alberta, etc)

or

Should I have to land at Quebec province only?

please post your valuable replies

hi guys,

I am a QSW applicant and I am about to receive my immigration visa. I lived in Montreal for the most of immigration process, but moved to Toronto couple of months ago. I am planing to stay a bit longer in Toronto and move back to Montreal in 3-4 months.

1. I know that the VO needs to be convinced that I am still intending to live in Montreal. Do you know if it'd be a problem if I give them my Toronto address at the boarder and explain to them and I am going back to Montreal in couple of months?

2. given my situation, do you recommend me to go and flagpole from Quebec-US boarder or you think Niagara entry would do just fine?

I am really worried that the officer would reject me if I tell them that I have been living in Toronto for a while.

Thanks for your advise!! Love you guys

Re: Doubt of filing forms at POE

I am going to Edmonton in feb first week on PR but i have a doubt that you have to file up form for PR at the first destination in canada like if i take direct flight from India to Edmonton then it goes through Vancouver so i have to file up the forms in Vancouver before going to Edmonton and the time difference between flights from Van to Edm is only 3 hours so will it be enough to complete all the formalities of immigration.I am coming with my wife and child.

You must clear immigration at your port of entry into Canada. So if you land in Vancouver, you must clear there and then the Vancouver to Edmonton flight is a domestic flight (no immigration).

Three hours should be enough in Vancouver to land and get your connecting flight. If not, your airline will book you onto a later connecting flight.

Hi there!

I got my COPR under FSW and scheduled to travel to Toronto on February 9 2014 via direct flight from Karachi, Pakistan .Being a PA, I am accompanied by my family members as well since our visa will expiry on Feb 22, 2014.

Although I have gone through the earlier posts which confirm having no issue, I want to reconfirm whether there be any issue if I land in Toronto? As per my COPR, the port of entry has been stated to be “Calgary, Alberta”. My plan is to settle in Toronto since I have friends there.

Will I be allowed to land in Toronto to complete my landing formalities?

Please advise.

Kindest regards.
