Hi... i wish to know if i have a joint account with my father , is it possible to show the POF from that account ? is there any problem since its joint account with father ? Or should it be a separate account just in my name? Please do clarify !!

No you cannot.
The account should be in your name, or your accompanying spouse.

Best is to send email to CIC , they will reply you in a week (mostly ) .
If they say it's ok then that's fine .
Tell them If you only Child of your parent or you got other bro and sis too .

If you got other siblings then It's hard for them to accept those bank account as available funds .

Apparantly You can't , if you do apply with this....ur application will get rejected.
But if you really have no way to show fund except this way than you have to provide lots of documents ,like ur father n ur relationship prove,ur fathers declaration etc...

You have to prove this to CIO to satisfy them that your father will pay you the fund you need, if you wanna use ur and ur fathers joint account as a proof of fund.

Joint accounts other than spouse will not be considered as valid proof of funds. You need to have funds in your name. Tell your father to make a FD for you. This way you will have funds in your name. In case vo asks for proof of funds before visa, you will have nearly an year old funds in your name to show.

Other members please clarify what can be done in case vo asks for 6 months bank statements ?. FD's dont have statements, but can a bank letter confirming the funds and their length will do the job ?. There is no way that statements for FD's can be obtained as the money is fixed and no withdrawal and deposit is taking place. Any suggestions regarding the 6 months statements ?.

Dear..as per my knowledge, joint accounts are not acceptable. Bank account should solely be in your name unless the person is accompanying u to Canada.

U may get negative note from VO. Arrange to have funds in your name and as per the guidance given on CHC website

Hmm, so should i send thm an updated bank statement or wait for them to ask for the same?

thanks again

Shah jee, its better to send the fund related documents before they ask. There could also be a straight rejection by vo without asking you anything. Please send the funds in your name this time.

Thanks will do asap...
Well dear. I do not think this is as easy as u think. Simply sending a new statement without being asked and VO will accept it? I don't think so unless u r very very lucky. POF is a serious concern for VOs and can cause problem at any stage of process.

I suggest u sending PM to Qorax and seek his advise before taking any action.

Actually you can send updated documents to the visa office at any time after they receive the file, without being asked for them. The visa officer will then examine all the documents available at the time when they start processing. For example, we initially provided estate agent quotations and mortgage letter as proof of funds with equity in our property. Then whilst our application had arrived at London visa office, we had saved up sufficient bank funds to also cover the minimum, so we sent these to the visa office as additional proof of funding.

Regarding POF in joint name with father, please note if you do get the funds transferred into your own name only, you should also get a signed affidavit from your father stating that these funds are now wholly yours and do not need to be repaid. VO will query such a large sum being deposited, and how otherwise will they know which portion of these funds are yours and which still belong to your father?

Best of luck,
Wayne.
