Hi, I am in the process of putting together the paper works. I have no problem with getting Letter of References from my two previous employers/supervisors. However, I don't want to submit one from my current employer because I am afraid that they would lay me off due to them knowing that I won't be working here in a year or two. I read on the E37048.pdf (Buffalo office application checklist), which states that "If you cannot provide a reference from your current employer, provide a written explanation." So, can I just write to CIC stating this fact with regards to being laid off if my employer knows? What would be the best approach?

Thank you so much! I'm glad I found this forum.

I can see where you are coming from. Does you employer have a website where you can obtain this info, typically they work with a third party on this and can send you a standard letter. You can also write a letter yourself explaining situation. Get the paystubs too.

Thank you for replying. I am not sure what you mean by this: "Does you employer have a website where you can obtain this info, typically they work with a third party on this and can send you a standard letter. "

As for writing a letter myself and submitting paystubs, that is something I can do.

it is quite common for people to be reluctant to notify their current employee about their intentions of relocating to Canada

yes, you need to explain that to CIC, but don't forget you also have to prove the details that CIC require, which the employer's letter normally supplies, i.e. that you were in full time, paid employment over what period of time and that your duties were (list of duties) that match the NOC requirements, so you should looking to provide your employment contract, pay statements, bank account details showing payment received, etc, etc, etc

If you cannot provide a reference or employment contract from your current
employer, provide a written explanation along with an official proof of your
employment.

Again, thank you everyone for your advice.

qbanky, could you please give us an outline or summary of what you wrote if it's not too much trouble?

john5655, great advice. I have no problem providing any information with regards to my current employer.

1) Do I have to provide the letters from previous employters if I don't claim points for them. I mean that my previous ocupations are not on the list, but only my current one?
2) Do I have to provide contracts? I don't think that I ever had them. How strict are they on this point?
Thanks a lot for your advices.

What do you all submit? Pay stubs? Previous W-4 Year forms? We can also write the letter ourselves right?
