As a Canadian citizen I can say that this country is going downhill fast. The Trudeau regime failed to look after its inhabitants over the past 8 years.
Criminals are treated better than the victims, taxes are getting higher and higher, the inflation is sky-high, housing, rent and mortgages have become ridiculous. The famous Canadian healthcare system is about to collapse. No doctors, no nurses, emergency room wait times are 6 hours plus. Just been to one yesterday, it was dreadful.
If you have a decent life where you are, stay there, Canada is not for you. If you are poor, Canada is not for you. If you are rich, Canada is not for you.

IMHO, this is basically happening everywhere. Well, at least from where I came from... VIP treatment for criminals were introduced by the effing liberals 36 years ago from my home country. As a result, heinous crimes skyrocketed that Congress had to reimpose the death penalty briefly. And would have stayed implemented had not the "infallible" church interfered with the "secular" government affairs again.

If new people that have arrived into this country are upset , ( anyone in the last 20 years ) can you imagine people that actually settled this country ? My first ancestor came in the mid 1600’s. Was a POW , sent to France . My ancestors came in the late 1700’s. Like settlers. Not immigrants. But settlers . First in Quebec, then they were ones that went out west to open it up . No handouts , nothing . Zilch

Grocery prices is crazy here in BC if you have family of 4... spending 200 plus at Costco has become normal...It is unliveable place, from Auto insurance, rent, groceries, accessing family Doctors, ER is messed up list go on and on.....

Yeah,that's what I got, a family of 4, and 200 bucks just can't get you much these days, maybe just a corner of a grocery cart in Costco. And all other prices are insane as well....

I am certainly not going to say that life in Canada is a bowl of cherries right now, and I am noticing the effects of inflation at every turn of the road. But, I am left to wonder, are the inflation issues a uniquely Canadian problem? I don't really think so. I have family in Europe, U.S. and Philippines and I hear them complaining too.

I was in the Philippines all winter and I saw prices there generally higher than I have seen there in years past. Back here in B.C., same. Everything is up. I agree with the OP about taxes in Canada. For years, Canada has become more and more tax crazy. That applies to provincial and local governments as well. I have seen many new taxes brought in where none existed before. But it does not matter what government you vote for. All are the same. I have not wasted time voting in any election since I reached the age of majority. I did it once, then, just to say I did it.

But, PAINKILLER, do you think your country of origin - or any other country in which you have lived - is now better in these things? Has Canada declined in a way that they have not? If so, are you contemplating a return whence you came?

We are applying for my wife's PR from Philippines. She's been denied TRV 3 years in a row and the likelihood of her getting PR is doubtful. I am content to return to live in the Phils. Becoming a non-tax resident of Canada certainly has an allure. I would keep a lot more of my money living there. Despite inflation, and some things they're being more expensive than here, it's still much cheaper to live there. The OP mentioned healthcare. There is good care there, but mainly in larger centres. There is no state healthcare there, so many go without. That means that there is not much pressure on the system and no wait times. You can go see a GP without an appointment and pay about $12 for an office visit, or maybe $25 to see a specialist. So self-insuring is not an issue.

Why would her PR be denied? TRV refusal is not a predictor of PR approval/denial. Many are denied TRVs but get PR easily.

There are many places that are cheap to live in if living off of foreign currency or working remotely from your employer at a similar pay rate as you did while living in a more expensive country. Most workers in the Philippines wouldn’t likely be offered the same rate of pay if doing the same remote work from the Philippines. Inflation also affecting these countries and you will get decent healthcare at private hospitals. As you said such a small percentage qualify for high end healthcare that there isn’t the wait you find in countries where there is Medicare. Wouldn’t say the general Philippino population is saying that life has gotten better in the past few years either. Lots of criticism when it comes to Canada and the decisions that have been made for the past 25+ years that have now resulted in issues with housing prices, shortage of HC labour and HC beds, etc. but many countries are experiencing the exact same thing as Canada.
