Does the Visa Officer judge one's application based on the ranking on a university?
Someone told me that the chances of my application being accepted is very little because the university I applied to (York University) is not good enough.

Could you please confirm if this is correct?

Thank you

Yes - the university ranking matters.

York University has a pretty good reputation. Whoever told you to worry doesn't know what they are talking about and isn't familiar with university rankings. Was this by any chance an agent trying to convince you to go to college?

If you are apply to a low ranked university like VIU - that could certainly impact your chances of acceptance.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I applied for my visa 2 months ago through York and my application was refused. My case was weak also because I didn't write a SOP and I also have relatives in Canada (Aunts).
Do you think it is a wise decision to try applying again with a SOP this time>

It depends on your overall profile. Of course, you should try again with SOP and also make sure you submit all the recommended documents that are mentioned in the checklist.
