Does the sponsor have to submit all supporting documents?

Hello,

I am a naturalized Canadian citizen (born in Serbia) and my wife is Brazilian. We are in the process of applying for her permanent residence status in Canada, and we have a few questions:

In part B of the document checklist, under "Supporting documents for sponsored persons (principal applicant and all family members" does the sponsor also have to provide these documents? Does the sponsor also have to send in passport size photos? Does the sponsor need to send in a police certificate? We are confused because the definition of family members is "you, your spouse and any dependent children." In our case, the spouse is the sponsor.

For photocopies and translations of Brazilian documents, do the photocopies need to be certified copies? Who can do the translation? Does it have to be a recent translation, or can it be a few months old?

Should we wait to get police certificates, or would one taken today still be valid while the application is in process?

Thanks!

Thanks for your reply!

I think we're ok with the forms, the part we are confused about is in the supporting documents. Starting on page 4 of the checklist, it says:

"You (the principal applicant) must provide the following (photocopies only) for yourself and your family members:"

Appendix A in the guide defines family members as:

Family members:
An applicant’s closest relatives, in the context of an application. It is defined as a spouse or common-law partner, dependent children, and their dependent children. See subsection 1(3) of the IRPR for the legal definition.

This makes me think that I also need to submit all the following documents, but it doesn't really make sense because I'm not the one applying to be a permanent resident. Why should I need to send in passport style photos?

You don't have to, the wording is very confusing

When it says "Applicant and other family members..." CIC is really saying "other family members in the application (who are not already a PR or Citizen of Canada)."

So, no, the sponsor does not need to do the PCC or medical exam.

Another layer to this confusion is that in IMM5406 (Additional Family Members). the Principle applicant must name all the requested relatives...

in this case, the PA's Spouse would be you, the sponsor, and if you the sponsor have children that would make them step children to be listed.

Great! Thanks for your quick help. I have more questions, but I'll make a new post since they're not really on the same topic.

Best,
