Hi guys,
I'm considering applying for EE, and one of the things that may affect my application is that the employer of my most significant work experience may not provide details of my job description in the reference. Their standard reference letter just confirms job title and dates of employment.

I'd like to ask them for the reference letter now so that I hopefully can rest easy knowing I have it - I don't want to be knee deep in the EE process and then have this screw it up after I've invested a lot of time and heartache.
Does it matter when the reference letter is dated, and if a significant number of months (or even a couple years) have passed since it was written?

Thanks!

Date doesn't matter.
Just have the date when issued

Ask to include company and signing person contact information

Be sure letter meet CIC requirements

I got my PR submitting 2 years old reference letter from former employer. Not a problem.

It does not matter if you're talking about a former employer (although, of course, the letter MUST have a date on it).

But if you're talking about a current employer, it could matter - some people have had their letters written before they complete one year, for example, and then are refused, because the date on the letter serves as the "end date" of the experience. Some have had undated letters, which IRCC cannot accept.

So - the date does matter, but in the circumstance you describe, it is OK to get the letter in advance.

Correct - previous ones don't matter. Current one does.

Hi

2 years back, I received my PR reference letter from my employer with a date, an address of the employer and a contact person of HR, start date working in Canada with designation and NOC code,.......

Now, do we need to get another letter as per recent CIC changes as highlighted below? If yes, we exactly need to mention in the reference letter

Or would CIC still consider my old reference letter as a valid job offer/reference number?

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/offer.asp

you have a valid work permit for a NOC 0, A or B job that is exempt from needing an LMIA, and you:
are currently working for an employer specified on the work permit
have one year of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work) for that employer and
have a valid job offer from that employer for at least one year after we issue your permanent resident visa.

Can someone please confirm about this query?

You're asking about the Reference letter but CIC change the job offer letter, it's different

You could need a Job OFFER letter for at least one year, previously was a Permanent time job offer

Do you have a job offer?
Do you have LMIA or you're LMIA-exempt?

I got a reference letter recently, but left the company 3 years back, so did my them supervisor. Since neither me nor my supervisor is working in the company any more, he just gave it on plain paper and not on company letter head. How can I tackle this issue?

Get it notorised. Also get a corporate ref letter direct from the employer with whatever you can on it. A letter head paper is very portable. You may have to submit payslips as additional proof.

Getting anything from the employer has become very difficult as there has been a major turnover since. Luckily I could connect with my supervisor on his private email. But yes I have payslips from them, maybe I will add tax document too.

Add supporting documentation. Did you have a contract or appointment letter on letterhead? pay stubs? tax documents? Other relevant correspondence?
