Does remote job in my country while studying in Canada counts as working experience background?

Hi guys,

I`ve been working for a company in Brazil (and being paid in my Brazilian account) for the last 3 years, while studying here in Canada. Does it count as points for my historical background? I read that CIC doesn`t accept as working experience (here in Canada) any job that you have while studying, does it apply for my remote job in Brazil as well?

Thanks in advance.

No studying in Canada and being employed is not accepted toward your work experience unfortunately.

Do you have other work experience ( before or after your studies)?

Yes. I do have experience from before as well. But just up 1 to 2 years... but it seems that it won`t be possible, unfortunately!

Btw, do you know which documents do I need to prove my background experience? Do they all need to be in the same field? I`ve worked in marketing and programming. Also, my certificate here in Canada will be in programming as well. Thanks.

No you can have experience in different fields. As long as its 1 year or more, in NOC 0, A or B.

And it doesn't need to be in the field you have your degree in. A job letter from your current or past employer outlining your working hours, benefits, and job duties that match the chosen NOC will prove your experience.

Thanks for your prompt and VERY helpful answers luv2read90!

Don`t I need to prove how much they paid me, as well? And can it be more than 30/h? I used to work 50/h a week in that company.

Also, 6 months of this studying was actually Co-Op. Can I count my remote job hours in that case? Or in the days I haven`t studied? (like school vacations)

For the experience you show and claim points in EE you need to get a reference letter form the employer which shows your working hours, salary earned and job duties. More work hours is no issue

CIC needs at least a year of full time experience
