Does quitting job affect CEC application in process?

I filed under CEC (BUffalo Office) in May 2011 and have recieved my medical request in Sep 2011. I can see in ECAS that they have recieved my medical and have started processing my application in the end of December 2011. I am planning to quit my job(in Canada). I would like to get your opinions on the following questions:

Would it affect or delay my case by any chance?
After quitting my job, do I have to inform the Buffalo Visa office?
I am also planning to get a reference letter from my employer stating: my salary, number of hours/week, my starting and last date and my duties. Is there anything else which I should ask him to include in the letter?
If I get passport request, would I face any problems while landing at the border?

Thanks for your help.

you dont need to worry about quiting your job because u dont need to be employed at the time of your application. it wont affect ur application once u have got required hours needed to qualify. As for reference letter, u suppose to include it on ur application and not after u have applied. They might refuse ur application if u didnt include reference letter stating ur duties, positions and hours with ur application. everything need to be included at the initial stage to avoid unecessary refusal.

Thanks ujbaby for your reply. As for the reference letter, I have already submitted it with my application. This is the reference letter I am planning to get from my employer before I leave. In case, if CIC asks it again or I need it somewhere else. Thanks a lot for your help.

You should not have problems landing at the border provided you land before the expiry date on your immigrant visa and have your confirmation of permanent residence (COPR).

As an aside, be sure to give your employer at least 2 weeks notice before you resign so as not to burn bridges. Goodluck!

I have the same question too. I applied last August. I am considering to quit the job in May. However. I am not sure if I need to inform the immigration center.

I wrote a letter to them asking if I could quit and if i need to inform them, and how, they replied:

It is the applicants responsiblility to ensure their status remains valid while the permanent resident application is processing.

What does it mean? does it mean that I need to inform them that I quit the job? If so, how can I tell them? what do I need to send them?
anyone help?
thanks!!

No. They did not answer your question, just gave you a canned response.

"Status" refers to immigration status. It just means that if you stay in Canada, you do so with proper authorization (permits), and you renew them as necessary. You cannot work if not authorized to do so etc. If you have a temporary work permit, you can stay in Canada until the end date of the work permit, but you cannot work for a different employer unless you get a new work permit.

With CEC applications, you must meet the requirements before you apply - what happens afterward doesn't matter much (unless you get arrested or stay in Canada without authorization). If you quit your job, it does not affect your eligibility, so if that is what you want to do, then go ahead. (It is different for FSW2 applications).

And, with CEC applications, you are not required to remain in Canada, so if your status expires and you leave Canada, you simply need to inform CIC of your new address.

Thanks jes_ON for the quick reply!!! :)

good! Then I dont need to worry about waiting something like ROE. yea I guess I misunderstood their meaning. cause I also asked if I could leave canada as my work permit is going to expired. They also said I need to have valid statue to re-enter canada. I think travel visa works.

Hi,

I have the simmlar experience with this guy above. I left Canada after I sent my application. Now, I receive a email asking me to do my medical exam. I am not sure if I have to go to Canada to do the ME or I could see a designated doctor from another country.

If I could do it without coming back to Canada, do I send my result to immigration office or the doctor does?

Thank you for your time, :)

I believe you could do the medical exam in other country. The cic website shows some other location that you could do the MExam outside canada. In canada, the doctor sent the result for me. you could ask the doctore before making appointment.

Thank you. :)

How long does it take to get the passport request after sending the ME result to them generally?

Thank you,
