Hello all,

1) I have more than 1560 hours which I accumulated in around 8 months of work ( so less the year). I used to work around 58 hours a week. So does this satisfy the 1560 hours requirement?
I'm copying the exact requirement from Ontario Immigration Nominee Guide: Human Capital stream.

" At least one year ( 1560 hours total) of continuous full-time (minimum of 30 hours/week for 12 months) or an equal amount in continuous part-time (minimum of 15 hours/week for 24 months or 30 hours / week for 12 months in more than one job)"

What do you think?

Thanks!!

I've pondered that question before. I came to find that overtime does not count towards that requirement. A year counts as 12 months if you accumulate 1560 hours or more in that period. Here is the proof http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/mi/express-entry.asp :

Full-time work
(5) For the purposes of this section, full-time work consists of at least 30 hours of work per week.

Work in excess
(6) For the purposes of this section, a period of work experience that exceeds full-time work in one occupation, or simultaneous periods of work experience in more than one full-time occupation, are to be evaluated as a single period of full-time work experience in a single occupation.

No - it doesn't work that way. You can't meet the 1 year requirement with just 8 months of work. You need to meet the 1560 hour requirement AND also meet the 12 month requirement. Any week you work 30 hours or more is only counted as 1 week towards the 12 month requirement (it doesn't matter if you work 30 hours or 90 hours that week). You can't carry-over overtime hours to create additional work experience.

Here's how you need to calculate your experience:

1) For each week where you worked 30 hours or more - count it as 1 week of work experience.
2) For each week where you worked less than 30 hours - add up the total hours worked and divide by 30

The above calculation needs to add up to 52 weeks in order for you to claim a year of work experience.

I have one full year of experience working 30 hrs. However, I also worked overtime beyond those 30 hrs for that same one year. Can those hours be counted towards a second year?

If I worked 40 hrs for a year how do I count hours?

No - they cannot be counted towards a second year. Any week you worked 30 hours or more is counted as a single week. Doesn't matter if you worked 30 hours that week or 80 hours. You cannot carry over "extra" hours to create more work experience.
