Hi All,

I will complete 3 years in Canada in a couple of months(landed 03 - 2018), while filling the Physical Presence Calculator, I came accross the question *Did you leave Canada between 2016 - 04 and 2021 - 04.

I landed in Canada in 2018, so between 04-2016 to 03 0 2018, I was in 2 different countries and had never landed in Canada, so not sure what to fill in "Did you Leave" as I never entered Canada in the first place.

Can someone clarify this please ?

Thanks !

If you indicated you didnt have status in Canada before you landed then it won't matter as the calculator won't count any days before you became a PR

In the physical presence calculator, I couldnt see an option to indicate that "I didnt have status in Canada before landing".

Also in my case I was in another country(for less than 6 months) apart from the country of origin. So I should not be including PCC or declare that country as well in the Physical Presence Calculator ?

Here are exact details for more clarification:

Landed in Canada as PR: March- 2018
Will be eligible for Citizenship(counting vacations): May-2021
5 Year eligibility period: May-2016 to May-2021
May - 2016 to Nov - 2017 - India
Nov - 2017 - March 2018 - Poland

So based on above, I don't need to declare anything about my stay in India or Poland in the physical presence calc. ?
Also, no PCC will be required for India or Poland ?

Hi, I am also in the exact situation as you and not sure how to respond to this question in the online physical presence calculator. However I would think that it’s better to answer it as a “yes” and record your absence during the first 2 years of the eligibility period. It will be great if someone on the forum can confirm if this in indeed the right way. Thanks

The second question the calculator asks you is "Did you have Canadian temporary resident status (i.e. as a visitor, international student, temporary worker, temporary resident permit holder), and/or were a protected person) between DATE and OTHER DATE? "

If you answer "No" to this then your answer to the question "Did you leave Canada between 2016 - 04 and 2021 - 04." will not matter. You can try it yourself actually, if you select yes or no, the result of the calculator will be the same. But as someone has mentioned earlier, answering "yes" will ensure that you indicate that you were not in Canada.
