Hi All,

Do recruiter ask for your NOC code in Canada for jobs.
Basically, I have canadian working experience of more than one year for NOC 2174 and now I am applying for canada PR through skilled category with the same NOC 2174. Now I am confused whether to go with 2174 or 2173.
Is NOC 2173 for people having more number of experience and 2174 for beginners.

1. If you had more than one year of Canadian Experience, you wouldn't ask this question. So I assumed you only have foreign experience.
2. It don't make sense if you are a hiring manager and asking people for their NOC code. Just place yourself in their shoes. You would rather ask about their experience and technical skill rather than ask for NOC code right? YES
3. 2174 Computer programmers and interactive media developers, 2173 Software engineers and designers. What make you think the later is superior than the other? I assumed you don't even work in Software Development field.

Base on above facts, my conclusion is that you are asking for somebody. Please advise that person to step in and describe his/her situation so that we can help.

Thanks for your reply and Sorry if I missed any detail. I have asked above question for myself and I have more than one year of experience working in Software development field. I got my WP under intracompany transfer and my employer applied for that. I am still holding WP till 2019.

I am bit confused between NOC 2174 and 2173. My job duties can also be considered under NOC 2173. And I can also have the reference letter from employer for the same.

I did little research on both of these NOCs and found that for Canada
According to https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/report-eng.do?area=9219&lang=eng&noc=2174&action=final&ln=n&regionKeyword=Toronto,+Ontario&s=2&source=2&titleKeyword=computer+application+programmer#outlook
NOC 2174 is going to be Surplus:
SURPLUS: This occupational group is expected to face labour surplus conditions over the period of 2015-2024 at the national level. The section below contains more detailed information regarding the outlook for this occupational group.
Where as NOC 2173 is going to be under Shortage:
SHORTAGE: This occupational group is expected to face labour shortage conditions over the period of 2015-2024 at the national level. The section below contains more detailed information regarding the outlook for this occupational group.

Also I am already having NOC 2174 canadian experience and now if I move to NOC 2173 will it impact my application success rate?

I also searched jobs on Job Bank and the salary for NOC 2174 comes out less than that of NOC 2173.

NOC 2174 is more on UI side
where as, NOC 2173 is more on full-stack which include back-end.
Anyway, the most demand job is full-stack web developer. which is NOC 2175. Most application are going to cloud now a days.

Those code is just for immigration purpose, they don't reflect the real world at all. No one cares about NOC. That's why job bank is dead and CIC already removed the requirement to have job bank account to complete EE profile.

Thanks Again.

So I can apply with NOC 2174 and can find full stack developer job based on my skill set without considering NOC conditions.

I am a full stack developer but I have Canadian experience under NOC 2174, which my employer applied to make it a success I don't know why the choose 2174.

To make my case stronger, which I think so, will help me in getting PR without any confusion.
