Hi Friends,

Below are my queries:

1. Does NOC code 2173 regulated and do we need a license to work as a software engine? Job bank website shows it is regulated in all states.

2. if the answer to above is yes then how can we obtain the license?

3. is it better to apply with 2174 instead for 2173 as 2174 does not require a license as it is not regulated ?

Regards

Yes, all engineering related professions are regulated in Canada.
https://www.jobbank.gc.ca/report-eng.do?mid=39073&area=11326&lang=eng&noc=2173&ln=n&s=3
But these are 2 different things - you dont need a license to apply under this NOC. You dont need a license to work in Canada with software development or project management, unless the posted job explicit requires the P.Eng. license. What most companies do is to announce positions as Business Analysts or Developer or PMs, so the license is not required. So, I will skip to question3:

3) Apply under the NOC your experience is most related with. You will not be refused if you dont have a license, but it is very common to have issues when the description of your duties does not match your NOC. 2173 is very related with 2171 - if your listed duties match with 2171, this is the best bet!

Thanks for your reply mate!

I have further question :

I have experience in both i.e 2173( recently design) and 2174 (earlier and mostly programming),

4. as 2174 is more specific and it will be easier to ask employer or colleague for 2174 related work experience if the organization will refuse to give experience letter with 2173 - given the case is not it safe to apply with 2174?

5. Why do you think 2171 is the best bet ?

6. can someone who got PR with NOC 2174 later work in the job with other code, lets say in jobs with code 2173 or 2174, or not ?

7. does my total work experience should effect the choice of code ? - as my experience is close to 6.7 does that mean I can not apply for 2174 as a programmer?
