Does my spouse being employed really help?

I am a U.K resident living in Toronto on Visitor Status with my wife who is a Canadian resident. We planned to apply for Permanent Residency via Spouse Sponsorship when my wife got a job. This was on the advice of a lawyer who said proof of my wife's employment can help the application. Due to the pandemic it's unclear when she will be able to find work, so I'm wondering whether it really does have an impact on the application, seeing as the requirements only state she would only need to show proof of funds that would support me. Many thanks.

It will help but if you have the funds to support yourselves until you are able to find jobs plus a realistic plan on how you will secure jobs you should be fine.

When I applied to sponsor my spouse in 2015, we only supplied available funds as proof of support. I had no job and no opportunities in sight in the near future. There were no issues or questions from IRCC.
