Hello All,

My wife, who could possibly be the principle applicant instead of me, has been for 2 years a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant simultaneously at a graduate level at Caltech while she was pursuing her PhD before she decide to cut it short for a Master's to join in me at my home. Before that, she held research assistant positions for three summers (8 hours per day 5 days a week May-August) while being an undergraduate at another university, and she has been also a teaching assistant (20 hours per week for a semester August-December) while being an undergrad.

I would like to know if that is enough for her to be the principle applicant, instead of me.

I on the other hand, have worked in one company for about 1.5 years full time and developed an entire new and drastically improved electronic control system for them here in Syria. In addition, I worked as a Teaching Assistant during my Master's and I have also held industrial internships in the USA (3 months in one summer and then 4 months in another summer). Now, and since two months, I am teaching at private universities here in Syria (two of them) in one I am teaching an undergraduate class, in the other, I am establishing a laboratory and instruct it along with supervising student projects and instructing another lab.

I am Syrian. She is US Citizen. We are thinking of Buffalo instead of Damascus for faster processing time.

Please let me know what you guys think of this...

Thanks.

She has to have equivalent to 1 year CONTINUOUS skilled work experience, so her skilled work will not be useful in a Skilled Worker application.

Hey Bsoufi,

They count RA and TA as a work experience. I have same kind of experiences. I'm almost end of the my process. I applied to Buffalo. When I applied I had RA and TA experience for 4 years and they count it for 4 years. Actually I don;t know they count it for 4 years but If they didn't, I wouldn't get my PR (Actually I haven't got it yet but they just asked for medicals so it's almost end of the process-I hope so) because my points wouldn't be enough without 4 years of work experience.

to show that I worked as RA and TA, I got two letters. One is from my supervisor and one from the school that shows that working period, full time job and my salary.

Wrong information ...
If you work part-time as an RA/TA it will count as such Part-time
so if she worked one year RA then it is equivalent to 6 months of continuous work

How do I know? well I applied while pursuing my PhD here in the US the only work I had been allowed to do was RA/TA and it was counted for me (I attached references indicating my pay and hours worked and W-2) thats all that is needed ..BTW i already have my PPR visa stamped on my Passport

And she been in the US makes it easier and less time consuming
I applied from the US while my wife worked back in my home country -Nigeria
total processing time for us was
Aug 27 2007 AOR received
June 2008 PPR visa stamped on our passports
