Hi guys ... I wanted to ask if CIC asks for your National ID card details at anytime during the entire Permanent Residence process initiated through Express Entry ? By National ID Card details, I mean any specifics concerning your National ID Card for your specific original country. And by details, I mean like providing your ID number, or a photocopy of your National ID card, etc ..

Please note that in your own specific countries, 'National ID' can be called something else. Like in Pakistan, its called CNIC, while in the US its called Social Security Number (SSN), etc .. Basically something that identifies you at a national level ..

The reason why I ask this is a little complex so I'd only like to explain if needed ..

Yes, they do ask for it. I'm from the US and they asked only for my passport ID page (social security is not a national ID) but they specifically asked for a copy of my Slovak partner's national ID, which he uploaded in a pdf with his passport.

If your country issues you a national ID card then Yes you will have to upload it. typically most countries only issue Passport as a form of National ID card. Do note that driving license and other state IDs don't count.

Okay thanks everyone.

Reason I asked is because my country (Pakistan) issues two types of National ID Cards. One is called NIC (stands for National Identification Card) and the other is NICOP (National Identification Card for Overseas Pakistanis). Also, from August onwards I'll be going to the US for pursuing a Masters degree, because of which I recently surrendered my normal NIC and got a NICOP instead which states that my residence is in the United States. I didn't think this would cause any issues of any kind, but then I recently went to a bank here in Pakistani to correct the spellings in my account title for an account I have at that bank (ahmad vs ahmed). Eventually they realized that I hold a NICOP, because of which they now require that I provide tax documents from the US government. They say this is a rule for all Pakistanis holding a NICOP, even if they're only studying in the US and don't actually pay tax there (which will be the case for me). Subsequently the bank has now limited my account until further notice. They say this rules comes from the State Bank of Pakistan.

Anyways, the above experience has made me think whether the CIC will also require me to send similar additional document when they discover that I have a NICOP ?! I didn't know that holding a NICOP can create such issues. Unfortunately switching back to the normal NIC requires 2-3 weeks, which is time I don't have anymore here in Pakistan.

Any advice on the above guys ?

I'm pretty sure that Canada's only interest in your national ID is for identification purposes. The US is (more than) a little preoccupied with making sure that all money due to it from anyone anywhere in the world actually arrives, and therefore it bullies other nations into providing financial information on anyone who might conceivably owe the US government a dime. I believe that is the reason for your problem in Pakistan, and that issue does not exist in Canada.

Don't worry - you'll provide what you have in the form of your passport and NICOP and it will be fine.
